To be annoyed at my sister?

MotherChristmas2OliverJames · 20/12/2008 20:03

I know it is quite trivial but she really annoyed me today, she took me shopping and we had a lovely day then we got a couple of pizzas to cook and eat at my house. I went into the kitchen and came back in and she had just turned my television on and was watching it.

AIBU to think that is rude?

I never turn the tele on when i have visitors because i prefer to talk to them.

No you are not she is a savage

But then again, maybe she just had to see strictly come dancing

Should have told you first though

TurkeyLurkyWithAllTheTrimmings · 20/12/2008 20:04

Well I'd do that at my sisters house to be honest, especially if it was to watch Strictly Come Dancing.

whogivesaflyingturdanyway · 20/12/2008 20:05

The only time i would do that is if i knew i needed to go and have a poo at someone';s house and needed the sound disguise element to be in place.

subtle, like.

nickytinseltimes · 20/12/2008 20:06

She's not a 'visitor' visitor though, is she? My family treat my home like their own and vice versa. We will usually say 'Do you mind if...' first, but I think you may bu this time.
I suppose it depends on your relationship, but not worht getting your knicker sion a twist.

deanychip · 20/12/2008 20:06

hehehehe...seriously, you are annoyed because of that?

I think that she must feel very comfortable in your company to be able to do that. Why dont you sit and join her and eat your pizzas and just enjoy each others company...with the telly on.

I wouldnt be annoyed with that, i think that yabu.

janeite · 20/12/2008 20:06

I hate the television. However, you are over-reacting. You should be pleased that she feels so at home at your house.

TinselCoveredWILKIE · 20/12/2008 20:07

YABU - she's your sister - just tell her to turn it off!

deanychip · 20/12/2008 20:07

LMAO..having a poo in someones house...i cant poo any where sept my own shithouse im afraid!

gracie101 · 20/12/2008 20:07

she could have waited for the maitre'd to seat her FFS

and it's not like she knows you well enough either to take

the liberty of touching the telly.

YANBU 100% -evil beyond belief. cancel Christmas.

ChristmasDisco · 20/12/2008 20:08

Sorry, YABU

muckypups · 20/12/2008 20:09

She is your sister, so think yes bit un reasonable. She obviously feels very at home in your house so take as a compliment.

MotherChristmas2OliverJames · 20/12/2008 20:10

For the record me and my sister used to be very close but since she has been with her DP i don't get to see her often so it wasn't like she comes over all the time and is just comfortable, it was a one off and i don't know when it will happen again.

I nwould have pprefered to have spent the time catching up with her.

And then her DP comes over and falls asleep on my sofa

Cut all contact with her. How dare she.

flubdub · 20/12/2008 20:10

Shes your sister. Lighten up, unless you hardly see each other. Are you close/comfortable with each other?
I have no sibligs though

gracie101 · 20/12/2008 20:12

maybe she likes having he telly on and chatting too. sort informal chatting. a safety blanket as she doesn't feel to comfy around you as you're not as close anymore?

flubdub · 20/12/2008 20:12

x post

whogivesaflyingturdanyway · 20/12/2008 20:16

It has to be a comfort thing or a bodily functions thing. Maybe her stomach was rumbling.

god the friends i had when I was 15 are now reading this and know why I always turned on their tvs

TheBayingBanshee · 20/12/2008 20:16

Is she annoyed with you for switching in the computer and chatting on mumsnet. tsk tsk

whogivesaflyingturdanyway · 20/12/2008 20:17

although i would draw the line at bringing a random bloke round to take the attention away from me with his snoring.

MotherChristmas2OliverJames · 20/12/2008 20:20

I have never thought about using it to cover the noise of bodily fuctions or having a poo.

I was just a bit shocked, i hardly ever have it on at all.

I hate it when people turn their teles on when i go over to their homes because i always feel that maybe my company isn't enough or i am boring, let alone sticking it on in my home.

MotherChristmas2OliverJames · 20/12/2008 20:22

She has left now, i wouldn't dream of turning the PC on when there is somebody else here, how rude

Maybe if they were here for a few days but i am not addicted enough to not be able to refrain from doing so for a few hours not quite anyway

muminthecity · 20/12/2008 21:18

She turned the TV on?! That's outrageous, she sounds like a disgusting pig. Disown her immediately.

hecAteAMillionMincePies · 20/12/2008 21:30

crikey. I go to my sister's house, plonk myself on her sofa, turn on tv, help myself to food or drinks, rummage through her stuff, ask her personal questions and fart on her daughter can't imagine being all polite and stuff with my own lil' sis

fondant4000 · 20/12/2008 21:43

Is this an older sister thing? I'm a younger sister and wouldn't think twice about turning my sister's telly on, making tea, and generally making myself at home - and I see her about once a year

Maybe she hates me for it - maybe she's you!

moston · 20/12/2008 21:53

she's your sister? Yes YABU. she was chilling out
