To be put off by bad English?

I am giving online dating another go. Anyway, one man sent me a short message and he seemed ok. I replied with an equally short message and he then sent me a long email which to be honest, looked like it had been written by a 12 year old.

An example is:

yeah im good thanx just been sorting chritmas decs out and im knackered lol well wot you been upto what kind of bloke do you go for do you have much planned for weekend wot do you do for work lol look at me with all the questions well ill go now but hope you email back see you

It really put me off. Am I being a snob? I know my English is far from perfect by the way but I don't know why, this really made me not want to reply anymore.

I am aware I am being "Overly careful" this time due to bad past experiences but would this put anyone else off?

(please don't reply highlighting all the English and grammar mistakes in my message!)

Even if he looked like Johnny Depp that would put me off completely ... utter turn-off!

YANBU - I would avoid like the plague. And no you aren't being a snob, you just don't want to date a 12yr old, or someone who writes likes one!

If you were not bothered about whether it turned into a serious relationship then I guess it wouldn't matter, but if it's annoyed you from word go then it's not going to be a success IMO.

YANBU. I never know whether people actually cant spell or whether they are trying to be "cool", in a teenage type way, when they write like this.

The latter is worst.

ScottishMummy · 18/12/2008 15:22

i wouldnt disbar someone on the basis of that email as the actual content is innocuous. so yes maybe too hasty

email is an informal medium and some people respond in text speak.for speed, informality doesnt necessarily mean that is how they converse in person or formal written

Pinkjennybellrock · 18/12/2008 15:22

YANBU at all.

Bienchen · 18/12/2008 15:23

YANBU and a man that is knackered from putting up Christmas decs is to be avoided.

I think starting to date this time of year is particularly bad, too many desparate people out there that don't want to be alone for C and NY.

Good luck anyway MrsS

A bit off-putting.
I might chat more to him if there was no-one else in the offing, but if there were lots of other men I liked the sound of better I'd concentrate on them.
Which sounds truly dreadful, but there it is.

MrsSnape, it would put me off too.

YANBU.
