yesterday i went to a very popular mother and baby shop and was shocked to find that they have combined their nursing room into a an area with diaper bins and changing area, as i was feeding my son another mom was changing her baby as she lifted the bin to deposit the diaper the stench was "believeable"-i went up to the manager and told her the situation was unbearable the old set up was good, and she said we can't do anything and i said hold on i spend a lot of money in ur shop and you even sell our details to other companies you can't do this, a man there maybe the other manager said we do change the bins i said that's not the point its unhygienic sir what i suggest is you go and sit in there and have ur lunch at least he did say maybe we could just have one thing going please lets have ur views we need this changed -its in hammersmith thanks

Was it mothercare?

Was it mothercare?

Yurtgirl · 18/12/2008 12:33

Our local mothercare was always like this - ugh!

lipstickjungle · 18/12/2008 12:33

It's the same in the branch in my town, a very small room too. Also they have a dog ride right outside the door that makes heavy breathing noises - sounds like a creepy paedophile! I feed elsewhere.

MrsBadger · 18/12/2008 12:35

if it is a mother and baby shop they generally have glider / rocker chairs on display

these are ideal for feeding

hog one

dingdongmerrilyonpie · 18/12/2008 12:37

you wont get anyone in trouble. If anything, they'll just ignore your comments and carry on as before.

These shops are about making money. The more space provided for baby changing and breast feeding, the less space there is for selling merchandise. They don't really care about us. they just pay lip service to the idea and do the absolute bare minimum they can get away with in order to get shareholders the maximum profit.

lipstickjungle · 18/12/2008 12:38

we all spend a lot of money in these shops and they sell our details to other companies which the manager did not deny so lets all raise our voices and change this.

Agree, sit on one of their glider chairs. You would have drag me kicking and screaming to a 'feeding room' nowadays. We should campain this, force whoever has these bright ideas of feeding rooms in toilets etc. to go and eat their lunch in their.

littleboyblue · 18/12/2008 12:38

I think it's more than a bit disgusting. I've been in a major baby store and taken ds for a nappy change, just got his nappy undone and a woman came in to bf.
I wouldn't eat my lunch in a toilet and would not expect anyone else to not matter how young.
However, there are plenty of places to feed a little one.
In most shopping centres I've been too, there are 2 stickers on doors, one saying baby change and the other saying nursing room. If someone is unhappy about feeding in a change room/toilet, you don't have to

VivaLaPotPourri · 18/12/2008 12:39

Oh my - there

namechange3 · 18/12/2008 12:40

How much space do you think a store like that has? It's generally only the biggest branches that has enough floor space to have a seperate feeding room and get the amount of stock expected onto the sales floor.

lipstickjungle · 18/12/2008 12:42

little blue their set set up is a con,i do not wish to sit in a restaurant am dieting just to feed my baby n i went there to by someting so it is their duty as champions of babies to something-mcdon has very clean facilities in bush.

I took my dd into Mothercare once to change her nappy and it was in similar state. I changed her in her pram and went into a cafe to feed her - I didn't bother in there again.

SixSpotBurnet · 18/12/2008 12:46

Oh, I remember having this gross experience when my DSs were little. By the time I was on DS3, I don't think I ever bothered with "feeding" rooms (except the lovely one in JL Oxford St) - I just breastfed him when and wherever. But mine were all summer babies - it's a bit chilly now to get your norks out!

littleboyblue · 18/12/2008 12:48

I'm sorry lipstick, I'm not saying I disagree with you, what I'm saying is they can't please everyone. At the end of the day, they are a shop and they have met minimum requirements by installing a change area and a feeding/nursing area. I spend a lot of money in Woolworths (well used to) but to my knowledge they don't have a changing or nursing area dispite selling baby products

Simplysally · 18/12/2008 12:49

I saw a feeding room once with literally just one chair in there - not even a table. The chair didn't even have arms on it.

I think it was an old storeroom they'd hastily called a feeding room for some reason. Best not to bother.

TheCrackFox · 18/12/2008 12:49

I wouldn't even change a baby in Mothercare (let alone feed it. The changing rooms are always filthy.

YANBU.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/12/2008 12:52

I never use feeding rooms for exactly this reason. It is gross and completely unreasonable and unnecessary to try to combine two such different activities.

Let's get a campaign going - who will we address it to though?

lipstickjungle · 18/12/2008 12:53

i get you all but they used to have two separate areas they have turned it to bra fitting aha to make more money.
