to not write xmas cards to my 2yo dds friends at nursery?

I collected my dd1 2yo on monday who was armed with a card from a fellow toddler friend.
Would you expect to write xmas cards for children this young.
I only remember sending them once I could write them/sign them and read them!

Yanbu, but some people are nuts.
Don't do it - that way madness lies!

rubyslippersisappearinginpanto · 17/12/2008 19:28

i have just done DS's

he is 2.5

choudeBruxelles · 17/12/2008 19:29

YANBU i haven't sent cards to any of DS's felow nursery mates. When he can write, or at least write his own name on them, then i'll help him.

DS goes to nursery and playschool so that's about 35 cards i'd have to send.

rubyslippersisappearinginpanto · 17/12/2008 19:29

i have done it as I don't want to be the only mum that doesn't do it and so people can't be judgy judgy

choudeBruxelles · 17/12/2008 19:30

also i don't know everyone's name. how do parents get the names of all of the DCs?

rubyslippersisappearinginpanto · 17/12/2008 19:31

they are all above the pegs in the cloakroom at DS's nursery

choudeBruxelles · 17/12/2008 19:31

DS's nursery has pictures

Lulumama · 17/12/2008 19:31

i have not done them for DD, who is 3.5

she has had a few cards, some clearly written by her friends. some of whom are 4. some done clearly by the parents

but i don;t know all the childrens; names and it just seems like a waste of paper

rubyslippersisappearinginpanto · 17/12/2008 19:32

erm - you could make up names!

Could make things intersting

beforesunrise · 17/12/2008 19:32

YANBU

SORRY FOR CAPS MY KEYBOARD HAS GONE FUNNY>

DD GOT A FEW BUT SHE HAS NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE< WE BROUGHT A CARD FOR HER TEACHERS THE OTHER DAY AND SHE WANTED TO BRING IT BACK HOME< CUE HUUUUGE TANTRUM>

THEY ARE TOO YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND

nickytinseltimes · 17/12/2008 19:33

Yeah, but ruby, now we are judging you.

mytetherisending · 17/12/2008 19:33

Should I go in tomorrow armed with a notebook and pen? Write all names down and send cards then?
Just seems pointless because the children won't think of wanting to do it and they might not like some of the children

rubyslippersisappearinginpanto · 17/12/2008 19:35

Trouble is that most of the children only go in a couple of days per week as its on the base and not designed as childcare iyswim, just socialising iygmd? If I did that tomorrow I would have to make a special trip to drop them off friday and would miss many of the children before they finish for xmas

I haven't written a single card this year, let alone to other 2 year olds on behalf of dd! She has had one from her 'best friend' (my friends ds) but she (my friend) won't have done them to many children - only possibly 3 or 4 he plays with most.

BouncingTinsel · 17/12/2008 19:39

I received one for my 11mo from another baby (who I think is only 3-4 months older) and a chocolate lolly. Really sweet gesture, but I have to admit thinking it's a bit daft.
I only do family Xmas cards these days, everyone else gets a Cancer Research ecard.

mytetherisending · 17/12/2008 19:40

I did speak to my dd1s friends mums who said they are not doing it. The card was from a boy I don't even know. I might just write one to him.

bizarre. half of our cards this year have been from ds' nursery. I put a little bag of milky way stars on each peg, much more appealing to the kids than dull cards.

BouncingTinsel · 17/12/2008 19:47

I bought Cadbury's Mini Yule logs to take in for the babies...
Very healthy.

ScottishMummy · 17/12/2008 20:03

oh you ole meanie these are your child's wee play companions, nice to send a card and acknowledge them

YANBU

Same thing happened to me, I haven't got time to write cards to a load of kids that can't even read!

I sound so cruel, I
did one for the nursery room as a whole. I did take all the kids party invitations for DD's party though!

Rookietherednosedreindeer · 17/12/2008 21:12

Thank goodness DS goes to CM rather than nursery, benefits are a) No party required as only has 2 friends and b) No christmas cards to write to 2 yr olds, FFS its bad enough writing 50 odd cards for people we know never mind toddlers who can't even read.
