I have had yet another 'watch out women, nasty men are out to get you' email, so instead of deleting I replied with a link to the snopes debuinking [http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/burundanga.asp here]] and saying
'This is an urban legend!'

Now I am worried I am going to have pissed someone off, which is ridiculous, but this pisses me off!!!!

YANBU, people should really check these things out before spamming everyone else's inbox

A quick google usually comes up with the hoax ones

TheFalconInThePearTree · 17/12/2008 13:55

YANBU. I hate those e-mail forwards.

MerryMadMarg · 17/12/2008 13:56

Oh I always send the snopes story back to whoever sent me the stupid email!

DeckTheHallsWithBling · 17/12/2008 13:56

If you piss someone off, good. They should THINK for 10 seconds before sending these things. And normally, if you make it clear you think it's a load of horseshit, they don't send them to you any more - DP's sister has now stopped sending them to me after I sent a fairly brusque email to her after one! Such a relief.

CharCharGaboriaInExcelsisDeo · 17/12/2008 13:56

I always send the snopes links back as those forwards drive me nuts. One of my cousins has now stopped sending me them. Result!

ChirpyGrinch · 17/12/2008 13:57

bugger!

God I had an AWFUL one asking the world to petition against the release of Jamie Bulger's killers. Practically illiterate, and salivating over ever horrid, horrid detail. I so badly wanted to cc all with a ffs, but I knew the person who sent it to me (and all her friends) would be v upset. Gah.

FIMBOingaroundtheChristmasTree · 17/12/2008 13:58

My sil is always sending me shxx like this. Her mother and sil send it to her. I always wanted to say something.

pooka · 17/12/2008 13:58

I sent the same link to someone who sent me that ridiculous email about burundanga or whatever it was called.

TheFalconInThePearTree · 17/12/2008 13:58

Actually I hate all e-mail forwards unless they're entitled ''let's club together and buy Falcon a year's supply of chocolate''

ChirpyGrinch · 17/12/2008 13:59

Thanks! Took me all of 10 seconds to find it out.

And do people really believe that people soak business cards in drugs fgs!

OP posts:
MaryBeWaiting · 17/12/2008 13:59

I'm glad its not just me that does this (that is replies showing the relevant Snopes page)

ChirpyGrinch · 17/12/2008 14:00

Funnily enough Falcon, I hate all emails forwards unless they're entitled
''let's club together and buy Chirpy a year's supply of chocolate''

The one that really winds me up is the stupid glitter in flannel on or glitter sparay on fanjo, when the woman is going to doctors, i have heard it soooo many times!!

TheFalconInThePearTree · 17/12/2008 14:01

LOL.

duchesse · 17/12/2008 14:05

I hate the fact that loads of people send those crappy things to everyone they know without once processing it through their likelihood filter. About thirty seconds' work could stop their intended recipients from having their inbox filled with junk. no, YANBU, and hooray for Snopes.

HensMum · 17/12/2008 14:11

YANBU. Snopes should be required reading for anyone with an email account.
I get loads of stuff like this from my SIL, who is very intelligent and savvy - just seems to fall for this crap when it's on email.

nannyeggnogg · 17/12/2008 14:18

I always send them back with a snopes link and a link here

spongebrainbigpants · 17/12/2008 14:19

YANBU - I do exactly the same thing

I also hate the "if you don't send this email on something bad will happen to you and if you send it to 20 people all your dreams will come true . . " shite, esp enjoyed receiving those when I was going through years of IF and m/c

And (while, we're on the subject!) hate the ones that say "send this email on and M&S/Microsoft/Moet & Chandon, etc will track it and send you vouchers/money/case of champagne!

Really? Why don't people think about the likelihood of that being true?!!

notcitrus · 17/12/2008 14:58

YANBU - Snopes is almost the only reason ever to hit 'reply all'.

thumbElf · 17/12/2008 15:01

I agree - I used to just reply to the numskull person who sent it to me, but now I do a reply all with an apology to those who don't know me.

The "chain mail" emails, if I like the content I will send them on BUT only after I have deleted all the "send this immediately to 100 of your dearest friends or your knickers will instantly disintegrate" type shit. Even on the pps - they can be opened and changed.

HarktheheraldAnglepoise · 17/12/2008 15:02

YAsoooooNBU. Hate those things - but am pmsl at the idea of a likelihood filter

beanieb · 17/12/2008 15:03

good for you - I do this.

JRocksaNadelekLowen · 17/12/2008 15:06

YANBU - at all! I do this as well. Loving the 'likelihood filter', might steal that when replying to one of these ridiculous forwards.

cornflakegirl · 17/12/2008 15:50

YANBU - I've just done exactly the same thing for exactly the same email!
