I have had yet another 'watch out women, nasty men are out to get you' email, so instead of deleting I replied with a link to the snopes debuinking [http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/burundanga.asp here]] and saying
'This is an urban legend!'

Now I am worried I am going to have pissed someone off, which is ridiculous, but this pisses me off!!!!

YANBU Send them this email.

Dear Friends

As we move closer to the end of another year I wanted to thank you for all the e-mails you have forwarded to me over the past year.

I must send a big thank you to whoever sent me the one about rat sh*t in the glue on envelopes, because I now have to use a wet sponge with every envelope that needs sealing.

Also, I now have to wipe the top of every can I open for the same reason.

I no longer have any savings because I gave it all to a sick girl who is about to die in the hospital for the 1,387,258th time. But that will change once I receive the £15,000 that Bill Gates and Microsoft are sending me for participating in their special email programs. Or from the senior bank clerk in Nigeria who wants me to split seven million dollars with me for pretending to be a long lost relative of a customer who died intestate.

And I need no longer worry about my soul because I have 363,214 angels looking out for me.

I have learned that my prayers only get answered if I forward emails to seven friends and make a wish within five minutes.

I no longer drink Coca-Cola because it can remove toilet stains.

I no longer can buy petrol without taking a friend along to watch the car so a serial killer won't crawl in my back seat when I'm filling up.

I no longer go to shopping centres because someone will drug me with a food sample and rob me.

I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me to dial a number and then I'll get a phone bill with calls to Jamaica , Uganda , Singapore and Uzbekistan .

I can't use anyone's toilet but mine because a big brown African spider is lurking under the seat to cause me instant death when it bites my bum.

I can't even pick up the five pounds I found dropped in the car park because it was probably put there by a crazed axe murderer waiting under my car to grab my leg.

If you don't send this email to at least 144,000 people in the next 10 minutes, a large pelican with an acute case of diarrhoea will sit on your head and fleas from 12 camels will infest your back, causing you to grow a most unsightly hairy hump.

I know this because it actually happened to a friend of my next door neighbour's ex-mother-in-law's second husband's cousin's plumber - and it was on Good Morning Australia.

By the way..... did you know that a South American scientist has, after a lengthy study, discovered that people with low IQs who don't have enough s*x, always read their emails while holding the mouse.

Don't bother taking it off now, it's too late.

Regards,
Your friend

My Mum phoned me yesterday about this very email. A colleague of hers had received it and was absolutely frantic, forwarding it, warning all women within a mile radius etc.

My Mum opened with 'you're clever SOH, explain to x why this is a load of rubbish' and put her colleague on. I sighed wearily, directed her to snopes and told her to bookmark the site for future reference.

spongebrainbigpants · 17/12/2008 15:59

Love the email pingping, although I would say coke does work a treat on toilet stains - we use it all the time!!

PingpingsatonSantasface · 17/12/2008 16:03

LOL spongebrainbigpants I love the name by the way. Ummm really I drink coke like its coming out of my ears may stop now as I will think of you using it to clean your Toilet

ShauntheSheep · 17/12/2008 16:08

I always reply with the snopes link nad if its anyone in the business with a pithy reminder that the IS dept (which includes me) are less than impressed with their use of office email and perhaps they should read the business Internet/Email policy. That tends to a stop to it PDQ

BouncingTinsel · 17/12/2008 16:14

YANBU - that's exactly what I do, I hate those f*ing email chains

RubyRedfort · 17/12/2008 16:14

Oh i always snope.

thumbElf · 17/12/2008 16:18

loved your email pingping - true about the coke though! And it will dissolve teeth if placed in it overnight, and makes very tender pork chops when cooked in it because it starts to pre-digest the meat!

And I hate to say it, but keep wiping the tops of your cans - mice and rats have no bladder sphincter as such, they wee all the time wherever they are. I have had mice and rats in my house [blech] take it from me, they get everywhere and wee on everything.

BouncingTinsel · 17/12/2008 16:19

I received that Jamie Bulgar email, I found it incredibly distressing (I was pg and V. hormonal at the time). I had a gp at the friend who sent it telling her how upsetting it was and that she should not forward such emails.

PingpingsatonSantasface · 17/12/2008 16:20

I am never drinking coke again

and will wipe all of my tins and everything.

I also hate chain mail wouldn't bother me so much but I get the same email about 20 times from different people that have recieved it

GreenMonkies · 17/12/2008 16:25

YANBU

I particularly hate the "we are tracking this email and will donate 0.0005p for every sucker person who forwards it on". Seriously, tracking an email???

For F*cks sake!

thumbElf · 17/12/2008 17:07

oh now pingping - I thought you wrote that email yourself, but I have just had the exact same email through from a friend of mine! Now, unless there is some very surreal stuff going on here, you had that from somewhere, didn't you?

AndHeaVanAnnNatureSing · 17/12/2008 17:17

never heard of snopes before - brilliant. My MIL falls for every one of these things.

SummatAnNowt · 17/12/2008 17:19

This thread is turning into the thing it's supposed to be ridiculing!

Snopes disproving cola and teeth thing

spongebrainbigpants · 17/12/2008 17:49

Lol Summat, it really does clean toilets though - honest! Try it!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/12/2008 17:53

My problem with Snopes is that once I caught them being WRONG about something (they said that strawberries would never be grown with straw in England because it's too wet ) and I wrote and told them but they never ever changed it. So now I don't trust them.

OP is def NBU though. My students send me this stuff sometimes which is awful because I have to be nice to them.

spongebrainbigpants · 17/12/2008 18:03

Why do you have to be nice to your students Kathy ?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/12/2008 18:07

Because we have to practice something called Customer Relationship Management Spongebrain. Not like the old days when we could beat them. [wistful]

spongebrainbigpants · 17/12/2008 18:27

Lol! Oh for the good old days eh?!!

thumbElf · 17/12/2008 19:03

no it doesn't dissolve them overnight but it does cause pitting and will eventually dissolve them.
And saliva doesn't outweigh the sugar levels, that feed the plaque bacteria, that help to produce acid in the mouth to dissolve the teeth.
It defo DOES help to pre-digest meat; and it will bring your filthy pennies up beautifully!

SummatAnNowt · 17/12/2008 21:05

But you said it would dissolve them "overnight".

Now I will go and place myself on the naughty step or some such for being overly picky!!

thumbElf · 17/12/2008 21:19

so i did - well slap me arse and call me mental. - I meant it would start to dissolve overnight.

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 17/12/2008 21:23

Nannyeggnog - thanks for the Hoax Slayer link, had never heard of that one and its useful.

ChestnutsRoastingonanOpenFlier · 17/12/2008 21:25

I did that a while back too, chirpygrinch, so yanbu.
