So that I can decide when to give my DS the vaccine, choice of at the same time as MMR or over 4 weeks afterwards.

OP posts:
lilolilbethlehem · 15/12/2008 00:14

I don't know how it works but sure I read on a thread that someone's child had the MMR at the same time as developing chicken pox (the actual illness) and it kind of swamped their immune system and they died?

i am not sure so please forgive the alarmist nature of that. Not trying to scare anyone but I am sure I read something like that.

Mine have not had it yet.

Fleurlechaunte · 15/12/2008 09:36

DD was 10 months, got it from spotty kid at PlayGroup. I was fuming. The doctor said that it was quite unusual to get it that early [fhmmm]. She then passed it on to her 4 year old brother.

BouncingTinsel · 15/12/2008 09:39

Ds (11mo) hasn't had it but dss had it at 20mo.

edam · 15/12/2008 10:13

that sounds mad, Crazyloon, I think whoever spread that story really wasn't in possession of the full facts.

crazyloon1 · 15/12/2008 10:54

Could be right Edam.

Hope so.

I think it was a couple of days ago I read it...will have search.

Fleurlechaunte · 15/12/2008 11:00

That was my thread in Childrens Health, I can't link for some reason I am afraid. My DS had his pre school booster on Friday and was really ill over the weekend. Someone posted that story on their because obviously I needed to be even more terrorised for having vaccinated my son.

DeckHallsWithFIMBOughsofHolly · 15/12/2008 11:01

Dd was 10 months

Ds was about 3yrs.

Dd was more covered than ds who only had a handful of spots.

I didn't get it until I was 17 and it was the most hideous experience of my life. It was down my throat, in my eyes and ears, on the soles of my feet. Our bathroom was downstairs and my dad had to carry me up and down. At 17 you can image how I felt about that. I also had my first serious boyfriend. Arrgh still gives me nightmares thinking about it

ruddynorah · 15/12/2008 11:02

dd got it at 11 months, very mild, didn't bother her at all. she was bf to 8 months.

Fleurlechaunte · 15/12/2008 11:02

there not their.

ElectraInExcelsis · 15/12/2008 11:03

Mine had it when they were 5 and 3. They hardly noticed it.

crazyloon1 · 15/12/2008 11:03

Fleur, thanks - I am sorry to bring it up again and hope ds is much better now.

noiamnot · 15/12/2008 11:06

ds1 - xmas morning, aged 3
ds2 - aged 5.

loony - i read that as well. think it was an actual link, not just speculation.

Tigurr · 15/12/2008 11:07

Haven't read the whole thread (sorry, heading to bed!) but over here in Australia they give the Chickenpox jab at about 18-24months I think.

nappyaddict · 15/12/2008 11:09

i was 17.

Anna8888 · 15/12/2008 11:10

I had my DD vaccinated when she was just 3, in November 2007.

A good thing too, as chickenpox swept through her school that winter.

ohreindeerwhatamessysleigh · 15/12/2008 11:10

Ds1 was born with it. Was very ill.

Ds2 has yet to have it, but is only 10 months old.

Fleurlechaunte · 15/12/2008 11:11

He is thanks, but now his sister is ill so I am thinking that he was probably coming down with something anyway. Having the vaccination probably didnt help but I dont think it caused it.

nappyaddict · 15/12/2008 11:13

goldilocks - do you go to toddler groups or have playdates with other children? If so that is when a child will be more likely to get it earlier on.
