to think that DD should use a car seat?

Many of my relatives who are aged 45+ say that I shouldn't worry about a car seat for DD (nearly 21 months old)when they offer us a lift I'm learning to drive so not got a car yet).

My sister told me about a family gathering just before New Years' Eve and I told her that I'd like to go but can't really as DD can't go in a car without a car seat, to which she replied "It's up to you", in an offhand manner as if I was being overly precious about it .

Isn't it illegal, not to mention risky, to let my DD just sit in my lap in a car journey?

in my instructions the harness is only ok up to 18kg which may or may not take you up to age 4

i am pretty sure the 18kg weight limit is universal across all high back boosters.

I think the thing is Mothercare SHOULD not be telling people... oh use the seat belt from 15 kg if the child is very young. They should be saying... use the harness until the very latest it is safe to do so

There are seats available for big toddlers, usually sold as special needs but can be used by anyone. There is very definitely a gap in the market

They did say she should use the harness up to 18kg. He didn't use it for long cos he was only a bit under 18kg when she bought it.

Yeah the big seats for toddlers are usually only available in the US or for special needs kids.

They do believe in the US that kids should be rear facing for a lot longer than we do over here, so the range of seats is a lot better than you can buy here.

I had a woman with a six month old who wanted to buy a front facing seat even tho her baby was still the correct weight for his infant carrier. But her little genius was very bright for his age and had expressed a desire to be forward facing!

After much arguing debate, we finally settled on a britax first class which she could use rear facing for now, and then turn forward facing in a few months. Although i bet a fair few quid that he is ff already.

There was a couple in mothercare the other day with a baby who looked 5-7 months looking at one of the high back boosters with a harness!!
