I want to share something REALLY funny about DD1 and her cookery lesson at school, but fear I may be shot down in flame.......

do you think I can, cos seriously, I laughed my socks off and DD1 has also found it hysterically funny too....and may well go down in the hall of fame at school.

who wants to know??

but, the worst bit.......

the man who was 'judging' what she did.......he tried the meringe.......of course I then did not help by saying he probably now has salmonella.

TBF, I would never share this with you lot if she was still mortified.

but she had cooking again today and apparently the entire class laughed about it, and the teacher said that it has happened before, and she has learnt a very good lesson, before her real deal GSCE......nothing will ever go quite so wrong again!!!

BUT.....guess what she did wrong with the cheese cake......

lol

She sounds like Emma Whatsername and Phillip Schofield when they used to do cooking on SaturdaySwapLiveSuperGoingShop.

harpomarx · 04/12/2008 20:07

she cooked it, obvious!

nickytwotimes · 04/12/2008 20:07

PMSL at poor kid's baking exloits.

TipsyFairydifferentID · 04/12/2008 20:07

didn't use a binding agent in the biscuit base?

GrimmaTheNome · 04/12/2008 20:07

Oh dear. They ought to do one thing at a time - they should have made meringues not just been shown by teacher. [my DD made some in cookery club last year, aged 8]

Confucius said: "Tell me and I forget, Show me and I remember, Let me do and I will learn"

...evidently he was a little optimistic on the 'show' part.

psychohohohoho · 04/12/2008 20:08

we do now have a deal BTW......any cooking is first going to be tested on the family before doing it at school.....

If it makes her feel any better, for our Cookery 'O' level we had to prepare a dinner party menu.

I made bread rolls, and forgot to put them in the oven untill 10 minutes before the end.

They looked quite nice on the outside, but the inside was a solid, doughy block - bizzarely, they also seemed about 3 times heavier..

I still got a 'B' !

When I took them home, we threw them out for the birds. They bounced quite satisfyingly off the garage wall, and were still there, untouched and undamaged, several weeks later.

GrimmaTheNome · 04/12/2008 20:10

ingredients but no method? I hope to goodness the science classes aren't run like that!

norksinmywaistband · 04/12/2008 20:10

No butter as a guess

psychohohohoho · 04/12/2008 20:10

the cheese cake, she just figured crushed biscuits for the base......

she didn't melt any butter to make a real base

and the melted choc....she put it straight into the pan and boiled it on high

and the rocky road...........she made it into a mahoosive ball instead of spread into a tray, so no-one could break it apart to try it (altho at home we bashed it with a rolling pin......it tasted scrummy)

Cheesecake ..... no butter on biscuits?

MadamDeathstarOverBethlehem · 04/12/2008 20:10

Your poor DD. Even I feel bad for her. Why did the rocky road turn into tar macadam?

FabioTheLiterateCat · 04/12/2008 20:11

x posts

of course one doesn't butter biscuits.

lol lol lol poor dd1!

psychohohohoho · 04/12/2008 20:11

A girl in my class cooked a pizza during her cookery 'O' level and it exploded in the oven. Another girl tipped her neatly cut onions straight into the lemonade she had just made.

I stayed clear of cookery. On the other hand I did accidently drink my chemistry practical exam.

S1ur · 04/12/2008 20:13

heh, well she may be forefront of avant garde ball of solid choc cooking. Multipurpose baking.. is it a dessert? Is it a bowling ball? Is it a failed gcse?

psychohohohoho · 04/12/2008 20:13

I don;t think on tuesday I was much liked as a mummy I have to admit.........it was so funny tho......even now as I type I am laughing.

she is definately NOT a chef. shame she has had to take it really.......but it was the only option that fitted with dance and drama, which is her real love!!!

ooooh.......did any of you see my thread the other day boasting about them being in my local paper???

S1ur · 04/12/2008 20:14

Madame. That is hardcore.

Was it moonshine?

MadamDeathstarOverBethlehem · 04/12/2008 20:14

No. Do you have a link?

MadamDeathstarOverBethlehem · 04/12/2008 20:16

No, it was sulphuric acid and some kind of iron compound. The teacher had no sympathy for my evident concern and told me it would be good for my blood.
