I like both but i do whimper and simper at the site of a plate of mushy peas and chips. Had some for lunch in fact. With mayonnaise and tomato ketchup. Absolutely delicious!

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 03/12/2008 18:28

mushy peas delish (another northener) but hands down best pea of all has to be

MARROWFAT PEAS in a tin

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 03/12/2008 18:28

oh yeah, so op, yabu

ChristmasCakeYerbouti · 03/12/2008 18:30

Mushy peas ming

All tinned/processed peas should be banned by the EU

Petit pois is the peas.

CateMom · 03/12/2008 18:34

Mushy peas - with Faggots - in a bap!

(It's a Midlands thing).

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

ChristmasCakeYerbouti · 03/12/2008 18:43

No! Not bap - cob!

I am a Brummie, and I never really got faggots (or faggits, should I say )

CateMom · 03/12/2008 19:03

Yay ChristmasCakeYerbouti uses the word cob!

I live down south now and a cob down here is like a harbour. (cobb)
So when I say I'm having a cob for dinner they all look at me a bit funny!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 03/12/2008 19:17

Mushy peas are foul

Petit pois are divine...

ChristmasCakeYerbouti · 04/12/2008 08:26

God, I say cob (I live in the south too)

They call it a roll round here, the nobs

WalkininginWaynettaWonderland · 04/12/2008 08:29

Have none of you tried 'posh' mushy peas? i think it's a Jamie thing.....blitz petit pois / garden peas, add some seasoning (I usuallt add some tabasco, and maybe some butter if required)
Yum!

Othersideofthechannel · 04/12/2008 08:33

Cote d'Azur, I share in your confusion.

I know that mushy peas are made from bigger peas.

But what is the difference between 'petits pois' and peas?

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 04/12/2008 09:45

petit pois are smaller sweeter peas than your average garden pea...

OP posts:
Othersideofthechannel · 04/12/2008 10:26

OK, so 'petits pois' in the UK is what the French call 'petits pois extra fins'.

And garden peas are the equivalent of 'petits pois'.

I have never come across the equivalent of mushy peas over here

SpirobranchusGiganteus · 04/12/2008 10:43

If petit pois extra fins = petit pois, and petit pois = garden peas, then pois must = something bigger than a garden pea. Where is this giant pea in the UK? I have never seen it, I think. Strange.

Othersideofthechannel · 04/12/2008 11:44

'pois' is a bit more of a generic term. I am not aware of 'pois' existing on their own.

Chickpeas are 'pois chiches'.

troutpout · 04/12/2008 12:01

at mushy peas
at tinned 'marrowfat' peas

I'm not having it that petit pois are even the same vegetable as those hideous things.

fresh peas..and petit pois and normal frozen peas (just slighty bigger?) are very nice

My mum ,who worked in supermarkets for years, thinks petit pois are just 'peas for posh people'

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 04/12/2008 12:39

troutpout... i like it now.... i must be 'a posh person'.... i doubt it really, but one can imagine!!

Lowfat · 04/12/2008 12:44

I love all peas, bar split peas - DH thinks I am wierd because I get excited if I have a meal with peas in it.

I LOVE PEAS

SpirobranchusGiganteus · 04/12/2008 12:51

Me too, Lowfat.

Peas be with you, always.

nopaddle · 04/12/2008 13:22

Another big fan of peas here - fresh, frozen, tinned marrowfat and split. Great with a cheese and onion pie especially when DH makes it

One minute it was peas on and the next it was peas off ... sorry for sad variation on best carry on line ever.

TigerFeet · 04/12/2008 13:28

Petits pois all the way... far superior to the bog standard garden pea and a world apart from the devil's vomit they call mushy peas

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 04/12/2008 13:43

Wuhoooo- Kayz- i hope you're taking note of how disliked your 'mushy peas' are!!!!

OP posts:
kayzisexpecting · 04/12/2008 13:55

Well I am right!!!!

Mushy peas rock!!!!

DH says so too!!!
