To think that this was a bit below the belt?

DH has just come home annoyed. I asked what was wrong and he said he'd bumped into another parent from school and she commented on how tall DS was. DH said to her "I don't know where he gets it from because I'm not that tall and neither is my wife" so she replied "ah, but how tall is the milkman?" and laughed. I know she was only joking but am I being a miserable cow to be a bit annoyed by it?

yabu, its a well used joke, just laugh.

flightattendant5 · 29/11/2008 13:39

it depends on whether she is normally Ok or if you think it was a sly dig. Do you know her?

Sazisi · 29/11/2008 13:40

agree with ilovetochat

unavailable · 29/11/2008 13:40

How tall is your milkman btw?

monkeymonkeymonkey · 29/11/2008 13:42

Its just a joke, I dont think she was making a statement about your morals.

Sazisi · 29/11/2008 13:42

Shock Grin

LoveBeingAMummy · 29/11/2008 13:50

What would you have thought/replied?

Personally I would probably have said the same thing. Not quite sure why you have both taken so much offence, have you never heard this before?

BigGitDad · 29/11/2008 13:53

Do you think they really meant it? Of course not it was a joke. Leave it at that.

pania · 29/11/2008 14:00

Come on, I would say that too and I've never met you! It's an obvious joke.

zookeeper · 29/11/2008 14:14

Joke. You both need to develop a sense of humour

DaisyMooSteiner · 29/11/2008 14:18

Oh get a grip. It was a JOKE.

lilymolly · 29/11/2008 14:19

Get a grip
It was a joke

onthewarpath · 29/11/2008 14:20

Well ,might be a joke but I am pretty sure DH would not have liked it either so YANBU.

To people who think YABU : it is always much more fun when it is said to someone else isn't it?

Have I got an echo?

Miyazaki · 29/11/2008 14:22

so you are both annoyed about this? Or just you? Don't see how he could be as he set the whole joke up...

Nothing to get annoyed about, it's just dull.

CrushWithEyeliner · 29/11/2008 14:28

joke dear, silly joke

pania · 29/11/2008 14:32

Actually this has got to be a wind-up surely?

lilymolly · 29/11/2008 14:32

No Daisy I missed off the "oh"

TsarChasm · 29/11/2008 14:34

Good grief, how is that below the belt? It's only a friendly bit of banter.

zazen · 29/11/2008 14:39

I think it's a bit tactless, but it shows her up iykwim, not you. It is an old joke isn't it, but not so nice though when it's directed at you.

I'm just wondering why your Dh was so annoyed. Does he feel connected to his son? maybe some quality time would be good? Maybe I'm way off the mark, sorry!

I know my Sister's DS looks more like our Dad then his own Dad and that did cause some problems - I think her Xh thought his DS would be 'just like him', and he wasn't at all - Ds is taller and darker skinned, even thought my sister is quite fair skinned, I'm not particularly fair skinned, and take after my dad, and my DNephew looks more like me than his mum (my sister) and dad (her Xh).
Sorry I'm rambling now!

mm22bys · 29/11/2008 14:40

YABABU.

It's a joke that's well and truly past its use-by date.

Just be happy in the fact she obviously couldn't think of something more original (somebody said it to us too after DS1 was born 4.5 years ago, and I thought the same then....)

SparkyFartDust · 29/11/2008 14:41

Bit close to the bone then was it????

SparklyGothKat · 29/11/2008 14:44

it was a joke. Ds2 has completely different eyes colour to me and DH and my other kids, people always comment on it..

potatofactory · 29/11/2008 14:46

??

My god, I'd hate to be stuck with you two round a pub table, frankly!
