I've been taking them to watch the football this season, which we're all enjoying, but, so far, it hasn't been really cold and I suspect that if they're uncomfortably cold I'll get lots of winging and wining, which will make me More to the point, if they decide they don't want to go anymore, I'll have to stop too and I'll miss it

I have lots of years experience of wrapping up warm for football and I always wear tights under my jeans, which makes a world of difference. I was thinking of getting plain black girls tights for the boys (7 & 5 yrs) to wear.

DH says they'll be scarred for life if I make them wear girls' underwear, I say no-one will know, the boys don't even have to know they're meant for girls and it will be much cheaper than buying them boys thermals.

I would be more inclined to go for long johns and big furry socks - I wear this combination myself for outdoor work. If your feet are warm, you don't notice cold legs as much.

Tights that go over the foot fall down more than long johns or footless tights, and they can be too restricting round the middle. Those woolly tights that are sold as girls' schoolwear are really quite uncomfortable and awkward to get on and off for toilet trips. Tiny Clanger refused to wear them from a very young age and I don't really blame her.

Loobeylou's suggestion of pyjama bottoms sounds very practical as well.

In countries where boy tights are normal do they wear them just under trousers or shorts too like girls do in the uk?

Cali - so what's the idea of having footballs and trucks on them if you can't see them?

I live in Germany and tights for both boys and girls are everywhere in the shops - I have just bought a couple of pairs for ds1 (2.7) to wear under his trousers cause it's so cold (and ds2 is growing into the ones ds1 had last year) and I will be bringing them to England when we are there over xmas. Defo no problem with this imo and tbh.
