to put tights on my boys, under their trousers?

I've been taking them to watch the football this season, which we're all enjoying, but, so far, it hasn't been really cold and I suspect that if they're uncomfortably cold I'll get lots of winging and wining, which will make me More to the point, if they decide they don't want to go anymore, I'll have to stop too and I'll miss it

I have lots of years experience of wrapping up warm for football and I always wear tights under my jeans, which makes a world of difference. I was thinking of getting plain black girls tights for the boys (7 & 5 yrs) to wear.

DH says they'll be scarred for life if I make them wear girls' underwear, I say no-one will know, the boys don't even have to know they're meant for girls and it will be much cheaper than buying them boys thermals.

amess, M&S do thermal long johns for younger boys - £6 a pair

2madboys · 26/11/2008 10:28

My two boys have got the M&S ones and they love them. They are really soft and cosy.

admylin · 26/11/2008 10:33

I usually figure out that delivery charge is nearly what it would cost me to go into town by bus or to park the car somewhere in town and be tempted to buy other stuff too! So I save in the end.

Madsometimes · 26/11/2008 10:43

My dh wears long johns. He has to walk to the station at 6:00am every morning and does not want to be cold.

Stefka · 26/11/2008 12:44

I was just about to make a similar post! I am planning on buying tights for my DS who is one because his legs are always cold.

AllFallDown · 26/11/2008 12:57

YABU if they don't want them. My mum made me wear a pair of tights to the football sometimes when I was a kid. I found it intensely humiliating. And, for God's sake, their legs aren't going to drop off just because it's winter. It's not like we live in Siberia.

claw3 · 26/11/2008 13:04

Not unreasonable at all, as long as they are warm and dont mind wearing them. Someone has has already mentioned long johns as an alternative, good idea.

As for scaring them for life, had the same reaction from DH when 4 year old ds asked for play food and a till for Christmas. Must be a man thing!

TsarChasm · 26/11/2008 13:08

I have done this for ds. Not pink flowery ones I hasten to add, but they do belong to his sisters.

I noticed Lidl's were selling some childrens thermals the other day. Don't know if they still are, but they come along at Lidl now and again and are pretty good.

we do it with ds1-7 and ds2-almost 3.always have done.

if they dont mind then no problem.

on carnival night though couldnt find anything but pink ones so pink it was!they didnt care they were warm.dh was only one without tights and got cold

akhems · 26/11/2008 13:14

I did it with my son and he's fine, also know lots of men who work outdoors and wear them so go for it - better to be warm and comfy than vain and frozzen imo

ToThrottleablackbird · 26/11/2008 13:14

Yanbu. Tell your DH to get over himself.

midnightexpress · 26/11/2008 13:17

There was a thread on this last winter and somebody linked to a German website that sold tights for boys with cars and trucks and manly sorts of things on them, so obviously quite normal there too.

MmeLindt · 26/11/2008 13:19

YANBU, in Germany and Switzerland lots of the boys wear tights, I like these ones for the footie

MatNanPlus · 26/11/2008 13:22

I wear ski {padded, waterproof, windproof} trousers to watch my local rugby team, i would rather look big and be warm than smaller and cold!

noonki · 26/11/2008 13:36

YANBu (my two wear tights (1 & 3 )...though my 12 year old DSS says I'm cruel as they are pink. He soon stoopped teasing when he found out that originally they had been his )

wotulookinat · 26/11/2008 13:48

Buy long johns instead.

YANBU

i often put boys in tights under trousres, esp if cold

MorrisZapp · 26/11/2008 14:12

YANBU

Your boys will feel nothing but warm.

Do it.

piscesmoon · 26/11/2008 14:24

YANBU but you will be lucky if you can get them to do it. There is no way my DSs would have worn them at that age.

loobeylou · 26/11/2008 20:44

YANBU I have been known to put my DDs in tights AND PJ bottoms under their trousers if very cold eg bonfire night, carol singing etc - and would def do same for DS

why is it considered hard/macho to be frozen solid??

hillbilly · 26/11/2008 21:13

YANBU - I put tights on my boy if it is cold!

My children wear thermal leggins & t-shirts under their clothes when it is really cold. I bought them from Aldi and they were only about £3.99 for each set. Bargain, would def recommend.
