To not go to parents' evening at ds' nursery?!

I mean - it seems a bit pointless, if you ask me! What are they going to tell me, that he's really good at playing in the sand, but that his communication skills need to improve?

He's 22 months ffs! Plenty of time for parents' evenings when he's at proper school, surely? Or am I being too laissez-faire, and should I be taking more of an interest in my child's development?

Feelinglucky, Dh came back from parents evening and told us (Ds and me) that nursery were pleased with his behaviour and work. I felt a little uncomfortable. He's too little.... Ds only goes to nursery three mornings a week he's 4. Apart from that he in a class of girls, he loves them. Thats not my worry but.. some of them can write their name and count better. I don't want it to be an issue for him yet. Apart from that I am exhausted and need a laugh

exactly starb. parents evening tend to be about "work" and therefore can put pressure on...depends on the nursery a bit as well, I suppose....but, tbh....what happened to let Kids just learn through play.....and I know that is the theme anyway...but whilst observations are important, really they should only be pointed out if out of the ordinary....and that could be problems through inability or to much ability, iykwim....

Feeling - there's no way both me and dh can go as we don't have childcare in the evening! So dh is welcome to go and quiz them on our child's genius, while I stay home with a nice glass of red!

I can totally see why people would want to go, and I can understand why dh wants to go, although I am concerned he just wants ds' keyworker to tell him that we've managed to breed a genius!

YANBU

Also - and this could just be me being very cynical - but it does occur to me that ds' keyworker is a rather attractive early-20-something, as are all the workers at ds' nursery. Well, in his room, anyway (don't venture into the preschool much).

Perhaps that's why all the dads want to go!!!

I missed 2 years of parent evenings (when DS was 1 and then 20 months).. because I was working towards "worse mother at the nursery" award... and lsot the piece of paper, and barely noticed any notes about anything for that two years......

BUT, I did spend a good 10 minutes speaking to his key worker, and others who had a major input, at least once a week (he was there 2 days a week), and occasionally much longer. I knew what he'd done everyday, when he'd said something new/unexpected/ shown an interest in something new...... and honestly don't feel as if I was missing out. TBH, if I had felt the evening was necessary because otherwise I didn't have a chance to chat to them, I'd be worried.

but I would in future mention that I wasn't attending. Too drugged up and depressed to do anything so proactive previously.

Well enjoy your glass of wine, Suburban and let DH take all the credit of rearing a child genius

Lots of the workers at DD's nursery are young men, including DD's keyworker .... which probably explains why all the Mum's like to hang about for a while after pick-up to have a flirt chat about their DC.

Smithagain · 26/11/2008 10:04

LOL at the attractive 20-something keyworker.

In my first year at senior school I had a very, very glamourous, blonde art teacher.

In my second year, the art teacher was about 85 and a harridan of the old school.

Guess who's daddy expressed severe disappointment when he came home from parents' evening no. 2

ruddynorah · 26/11/2008 10:11

i went to dd's. it was rather rubbish to saythe least. we only went to show willing IYSWIM. she's only 2 and goes to nursery 2 afternoons a week.

we had to discuss our aims for the next 6 months. i was like...errr...that she plays a lot....?

yawn.

giddykipper · 26/11/2008 20:07

Well when I picked up DS this evening I asked whether they needed me to come. They actually said "it's a bit pointless to be honest, until they get into pre-school, when you might want to talk about preparation for school". The view was that they mention anything they think matters when I pick him up and assume that I would raise any problems then too. Quite right. So I'll not be going. I think I will write a note as KatyMac suggests though.

lol at the 20 year old keyworker thing...and lolling even more at smiths disappointed daddy, lol
