AIBU to want to slap my work colleague

I so annoyed at her. I have soup for my lunch pretty much everyday. It's vegetable so not horrid smelling, but every time I heat it up she complains about the f*cking smell. It does my head in. I like her in every other respects except this.

It makes me feel really small when she does it and I can't eat bread. She has some sort for food complex too.

So AIBU to want to slap her when this happens?

Have you tried telling her that you find her moaning offensive and want her to stop.

ScottishMummy · 25/11/2008 14:14

is it really about soup.or are there other ishoos

fizzpops · 25/11/2008 14:15

I sympathise. I used to share an office with two other people, without fail one of them used to complain about the smell of someone else's lunch (prawn salad) in a really whiny voice. I wasn't too keen on the smell either but we had no designated place to eat lunch and as far as I am concerned it is live and let live. I was irritated by this and it wasn't even my lunch - it is just rude and made my other colleague feel embarassed. We never commented on anything the whinger ate even though some of it was less than pleasant because we had good manners.

Fwiw I often take vegetable soup in to work (in a flask) and my other colleague always says how nice it smells.... .

I think she is petty too. Surely there are more important thing in life than smelly soup

She would really drive me mad, I would have to say something, or perhaps bring in kippers tomorrow

captainmummy · 25/11/2008 14:26

Really fancy egg-mayo sandwiches now....

moondog · 25/11/2008 14:26

lol lol at petty office politics
Other people's food is always minging.

oiwhatsoccurring · 25/11/2008 14:30

I am tempted by the kippers idea fizzbuzz but I don't like them

How on earth does she cope in a restaurant, does she complain about the smell from other peoples dinner!

The next time she complains about the smell of your soup i would be tempted to say im trying to see things from your point of view, but i cant fit my head up my arse

fizzbuzz · 25/11/2008 14:32

Just cook em anyway.

Don't forget the isolation tent CM

Today I had left over beef casserole and some pasta - warmed up. Several Indian expats in my office - so beef not exactly a cultural norm for them. But a lot of their food is more whiffy than mine - curried stuff etc.

oiwhatsoccurring · 25/11/2008 14:52

Claw3 she won't eat out. She never goes on team nights out as we always go for something to eat.

Oiwhatso - buy her a nose clip for Christmas!

Gateau · 25/11/2008 15:07

Tell her you can smell her armpits from where you sit.
Make it a bit lighthearted.

why don't you pleasantly ask her to suggest what flavour of soup she would like you to eat?

Perhaps it will make her realise what a twit she's being. But, it might also get her to stop moaning if you follow her suggestion?

(Not that I would for a moment want my lunch choices dictated by a random colleague)

TheSmallClanger · 27/11/2008 21:52

Until the rest of the info about this woman's obvious ishoos with food appeared, I had a sneaking suspicion that the OP worked in the same room as me a lot of the time. I have had to move office and have been plonked next to someone who has really stinky food every day - cabbagey soups that smell of farts, boiled egg salads that smell of worse farts, grim Tupperware tubs of brown leftovers that smell of gastroenteritic farts...

I eat my sandwiches in the car most days now, so DH gets annoyed at the grated cheese and bits of biscuit that seem to collect by the gearstick.
