to not want to go?

Ny DH is having his Christmas work do in Manchester and his work are paying for a hotel for the night, he has asked me to go.

Problem is that i am not actually invited to the dinner and dance, so it will mean i will be staying in the hotel room on my own until he gets back. He has said that we could pay for an extra night and spend Saturday together, but this would involved getting up very, very early on the Sunday morning to get back to London for a family get together.

I have suggested that we could book a hotel another time and spend time together, but he now has the hump and thinks im being unreasonable.

What do you guys think?

Chukkypig - They have a strict policy on this one probably because everthing is free!

Ledodgy - I was thinking more along the lines of a massage and a pampering session!

See im warming to the idea now!!

I'd go like a shot! I'd either go out to the theatre or something in the evening, or, more likely, spend a heavenly quiet evening watching TV, reading, drinking champagne and eating a room service dinner (I LOVE room service!). Then a lovely day with dp - shopping, exploring and a peaceful evening together. What's not to like???

Snaf · 25/11/2008 13:27

If that is the place, I would go. Definitely!

claw3 · 25/11/2008 13:31

Seeker - perhaps i am being a bit of the stick in the mud. Having looked at the hotel, i guess i was imagining some dingy room with air freshners in!

Harvey Nics and Selfridges are just a short walk away, bubble bath, friday night sorted. perhaps i could be persuaded to get up at 5.30 Sunday morning

I think it's interesting how our opinions have changed from "how awful to be stuck in some dreadful hole of a hotel room" to "that looks nice - let me at it!"

claw3 · 25/11/2008 13:38

AMIS - LOL fickle lot, just like me

Each to their own but I would love to spend a night of bath, telly, face masks etc, reading mags and munching goodies in a hotel.

Even in a 'chavelodge', which are actually quite decent if they've been recently built or fitted.

My work always put me in the Premier Inn at Kings Cross and it is absolute luxury to me! Huge rooms, mega soft bed, telly to watch and kettle to hand.

Last xmas they had unlimited mulled wine in the foyer! It was dangerous I tell you. I had such a brilliant trip. I actually prefer being alone in hotels, DP would just want to hog the remote.

DO IT DO IT DO IT!

Just tell him not to get too pissed.
Let us know the outcome.

moondog · 25/11/2008 14:08

Actually at least he wants you about. That's a good (ish) sign.

claw3 · 25/11/2008 14:13

Moon - I will be making full use of the room service and the mini bar, its the least i can do

He is a good lad really, i feel all ungrateful now!!

mrsruffallo · 25/11/2008 17:44

Good for you Claw
Have fun!

choosyfloosy · 25/11/2008 18:57

Send seductive text soonest claw, then he will stop wondering what made you change your mind

any chance of arranging to arrive a little bit later at the sunday family do? Although a really early start can at least mean clear roads (or trains?)

elkiedee · 25/11/2008 20:08

It looks quite tempting - they offer 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartments for £117 a night - maybe a place for a mumsnet meet up some time?

I don't know if that rate would be available at that notice - I was actually just putting in dates in January and February to find out the cost. I was a student in Manchester and would quite like an excuse to visit there. My sister is having her first baby in February, that would have been a good excuse perhaps, only I'm having my second due about 4 weeks beforehand!

FairLadyRantALot · 25/11/2008 23:17

hm....you are not invited...not much fun then...even if stay is prolonged...unless you have someone at the location you could go out with, of course....

Jackaroo · 26/11/2008 07:12

Um, you might want to make sure you request one of the recent renovations/be prepared to get stroppy and insist on one once you get there, Claw, I hate to send this to you now, but sounds as if it would be OK if you get it right at the beginning... www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187069-d193189-Reviews-Palace_Hotel-Manchester_Greater_Manchester_ England.html

BTW, I know there are millions of review sites, but I've always got a good overview from thsi one.

Sorry to be such a downer..... on the bright side, if I had a kitchen to mess up, I'd stock up on M&S or Harvey Nicks yummy things to eat at your leisure, I'm sure you'd get a lot more for your money than room service...?

Have fun!

J

claw3 · 26/11/2008 08:03
