Miss M,

Do you have a big nose? that'll give it away too...

i am fat, people think i eat too much and am lazy...

i am though.

OrmIrian · 18/11/2008 12:44

OK. Can't we just supply the response maggot wanted? Just for the sake of peace and quiet?

Tut! How outrageous! Such unacceptable bigotry in this day and age

There you go.

Quattrocento · 18/11/2008 12:46

I think you need to examine your feelings about travellers ...

ScottishMummy · 18/11/2008 12:47

does it really tak a lang spoon to sup wi a fifer?LOL and if so what does it mean

kiltycoldbum · 18/11/2008 12:53

im a scouser, people think i dont wash, go out joyriding nightly, rob money out of me mums purse, swig warm lager out of cans while joyriding (obviously) and that i should "calm down calm down" and stop wearing shell suits oddly they never mention my tight black perm.

really

bongosmum · 18/11/2008 12:58

does it mean that the bowl won't have much food in and you'd need a long spoon to reach the contents? i am married to a fifer..miserable, tight etc, etc...

not sure what mags wants to hear? don't know the circumstance in which the comments were made - i just think it's a bit of a laugh! isn't it?

KatieScarlett2833 · 18/11/2008 13:01

It means if you want to get near a Fifers food you'll need a long spoon (according to FIL)cos we're violent and tight.

Fair enough.

Quattrocento · 18/11/2008 13:02

It's a saying SM. If you eat with the devil, you need a (very) long spoon so that you can keep your distance. A warning not to get too close when dealing with evil people.

suey2 · 18/11/2008 13:02

isnt the long spoon thing a reference to eating with the devil? ie in hell you can only feed those opposite from you with your long spoon and you have to rely on them to return the favour.

The one i hate (i have a scottish accent) is the short arms deep pockets bull.

though it's true

OrmIrian · 18/11/2008 13:03

Or very hungry people presumably.

You'd need a long spoon to take food from my DH's plate Or the kitten's for the matter.

suey2 · 18/11/2008 13:03

x post quattro

bongosmum · 18/11/2008 13:03

shit! wish i 'd known that before i married him!

Doobydoo · 18/11/2008 13:15

Dp has a well known travellers surname[we live in ireland at the mo]I say he must be the black sheep as they are all very rich and we are not.
His surname stopped him from being beaten up where he grew up in Cumbria as they were all part of the family with the surname. To our knowledge dp is not from traveller stock but he has never been asked in UK.My family over here were amusedI couldn't care less but the stigma attached to Travellers over here[for a variety of reasons] is appalling. Then again it is also quite racist over here[in parts]and yes I know it is in UK too.

Doobydoo · 18/11/2008 13:17

Oh and I am a softy[streets paved with gold]southerner]

MissM · 18/11/2008 14:29

Big nose and curly hair.

Damn. Knew something would give me away.

ScottishMummy · 18/11/2008 15:58

bongosmum · 18/11/2008 20:18

FuriousGeorge · 18/11/2008 22:18

Cryptoprocta · 19/11/2008 19:42

Doobydoo - does the surname begin with a D? My mom's family has the same surname as a well-known traveler family. This family are pretty much hated by other travelers.

Doobydoo · 20/11/2008 20:26

No it begins with an S...there are lots round Rathkeale in Co.Limerick and the North of England at different times of the year I believe.Wonder what thee D one is?
