To turn a blind eye to DH giving the DDs ice cream and digestives for breakfast?

Its not exactly the breakfast of champions, but on the other hand I'd gone up for a "quick" bath and stayed in for an hour. (well it sounded like they were all happy downstairs - no surprise considering.)

DH said not a word about the long bath.

DDs are 2 and 11m by the way!

I would totally turn a blind eye to that once in awhile! Treats like that is what being a kid is all about!

belgo · 15/11/2008 08:29

I would only turn a blind eye if he gave me some too

AttillaTheHan · 15/11/2008 08:33

Kids always remember these kind of things when they get older. Its a treat for them so leave it as that,I'd turn a blind eye. Unless they have it for breakfast everyday!

AttillaTheHan · 15/11/2008 08:33

Quite fancy digestives now

taliac · 15/11/2008 08:34

Nope, came down and it was all eaten!!!

To be fair, he only intended to give it to DD1, but she generously shared hers with the baby..

Definitely NBU.

hecate · 15/11/2008 08:48

yes, ignore it. doesn't matter.

Although.

I am a steaming great hypocrite in saying that cos I remember The Great Chocolate Pudding Incident, where I came down to find my husband giving our son a chocolate pudding for breakfast.

I went POTTY! I went on and on and on and on and ON! not healthy, dangers of giving him a taste for sweet foods, needs balanced breakfast etc etc etc I was really cross!

It will come as no surprise to anyone that he was, yup, that's right, my pfb!

Pheebe · 15/11/2008 08:58

icecream - milk based therefore calcium and fat soluble vitamins
digestives - cereal based and simple carbohydrates for morning energy boost

sounds fine to me

Pheebe · 15/11/2008 09:00

those are the special treats that your dds will always remember - fab once in a while

Buda · 15/11/2008 09:01

YANBU!

Pheebe - there's fibre in the digestives too!

theSuburbanDryad · 15/11/2008 09:02

What Pheebe said!

ChippyMinton · 15/11/2008 09:05

Yum. What flavour ice cream?

mankymummy · 15/11/2008 09:06

god he let you have a long soak AND gave the kids breakfast. He'd be a hero in my household !

HelensMelons · 15/11/2008 09:09

No point in going off on one, they will ignore you in the long run anyway, if they are anything like my lot!!

I came down this morning to DP and DS1 sharing a can of coke!

rookiemater · 15/11/2008 11:26

Fine as long as he deals with the aftermath if they get hyped up as a result. I kept very quiet the morning DH insisted on feeding our 2 yr old a large easter egg for breakfast, then let him deal with it when DS was cranky and having temper tantrums. He hasn't done that again

aww - I would let him get away with it too . Don't think there's any harm in letting them have something like that once in a while - at least he thought to give them something - and you got a lovely long soak in the bath too

TrinityRhino · 15/11/2008 11:30

sounds like a lovelty impromtu fun daddy moment which let you have a long soak and everyone was happy

sounds great to me

shootfromthehip · 15/11/2008 11:33

Am going against the flow here but I think YABU. My DD is a manipulative little madam and when something happens once then she sees it as a precedent. Breakfast is an ongoing battle in our house (well ALL food is with her tbh) as she thinks that she should be allowed the chocolate cereal that Gran bought her once or the pancakes that Daddy makes at the weekends for every breakfast.

This said pehaps you have reasonable, moderate children who know a treat is an exception to the rule and not a pushy little monkey who will make your ears bleed with her ongoing repetition. I did that indulgent 'oh it's only once' thing and have never stopped regreting it

shootfromthehip · 15/11/2008 11:40

Sorry- I sound like a complete misery on reflection. My DD has reall issues with food. Am just jealous as I can't do anything 'fun' with her eating as it all becomes a problem. Hope you enjoyed your bath

Horton · 15/11/2008 14:05

YANBU. I can't see how a digestive is any worse than toast and jam. Ice cream isn't all that different from yoghurt, really. I wouldn't bat an eyelid personally. Might see if DH wants to try it tomorrow, actually.

I wish my DH knew where the ice cream and DIgestives were even KEPT!

OrmIrian · 15/11/2008 14:33

Nice breakfast! Wish DH would give me that for breakfast. Weekend b'fasts tend to be a bit ...erm.. unconventional in our house. In fact we have a big family sit-down dinner at the weekends which we don't always manage during the week, but during the day it tends to be a bit of a graze.

expatinscotland · 15/11/2008 14:35

it's a tradition in your home - when it's someone's birthday, chocolate cake for brekkie!
