To turn the television off or over when Carrie and Dave's Pop Shop comes on?

You know, I don't even care if I am. I loathe it, more than pretty any other children's programme. Carrie makes me squirm, she looks so thin she will snap in half with the slightest move.

She is a twig, she is too skinny, her head is the wrong size for her size 4 legs and she cannot dance, or sing she has no charisma, and clearly has no rapour with children. It is the biggest money making prog I have ever seen. I wonder how many hours one afternoon they spent making it (oh, seeing as we are here, lets do a quick prog for cbeebies, earn ourselves some cash)

But, mostly, it is because she looks all wrong and I do not want my daughter watching her, thinking that is normal.

So there.

Morningtownride - we have japanese version too! Ah thanks for info about The Cat Returns! Is it good?

Yes I have seen Spirited Away too - that is for when DD visits a friend of ours, she has it and DD watches it there. So we probably wont get it as it is special when we go there. I love it!

I hate it bcs it gives the impression that the kind of MOR music they make isn't written by a committee of 10 middle-aged men, as it surely is?

onebatmother · 14/11/2008 09:46

I like the idea of 'too inappropriate shoes' foxy. It's good to know that shoes could be mildly inappropriate, without crossing the line...

I dunno. There's something that quite appeals to me about the fat that they're not wearing freakishly primary colours and co-ordinating outfits. Half of me quite likes the fact that she (and he) are presented as genuine adults, doing something fun, with kids. Though perhaps that is the dumb half of me.

PavlovtheCat · 14/11/2008 09:48

onebatmother - actually no, my apology to 'carrie' was not intended to inflame, an apology should the person in question be offended if she happened to be reading, rather than an apology to someone who ranted without clear reason. yes, he or she could be offended, or angry, or just trying to stir it a bit.

MNE - you read the credits?

I wonder where that line is OBM?

Is it simply to do with heel height, do you think?

midnightexpress · 14/11/2008 09:51

Well Pavlov, I think 'noticed' perhaps, rather than 'read' would be the word.

onebatmother · 14/11/2008 09:54

Perhaps we will have to agree to disagree about whom an mapology should be directed at, pavlov.

Aaanways. I've said it before and I'll say it again, you cant; beat Chris from Doodledoo for manly insouciance in the presence of puppets. God I love that man.

foxytocin · 14/11/2008 09:55

you write stuff like that after being awake since 1 am onebamother.

agree that the jeans and makeup are also wrong for cbeebees.

the whole package is just wrong wrong wrong.

i am also skinny but w/out health issues and agree she does skinny people no favours.

surely she could find funky trendy jeans shoes and makeup that wouldn't turn out looking like she was on the game.

midnightexpress · 14/11/2008 09:55

Oh yes OBM, I'm with you on Doodledo. He looks as if he's been dropped in from somewhere and isn't entriely sure how he ended up talking to 3 gloves for a living.

ShauntheSheep · 14/11/2008 09:59

"He looks as if he's been dropped in from somewhere". At guess I'd say the local pub after a very long 'swift half' or just out of bed after a very good night the night before . Best kids presenter round I think.

onebatmother · 14/11/2008 09:59

at on the game!

A couple of years ago when that prog was recorded her outfit was the kind of thing you would see in the fashion pages of average women's magazine, as daywear. It really isn't extremely 'sexy', I don't think.

[I love the fact that I can say 'daywear' with a straight face. Next I'll be casually mentioning cruise collections]

foxytocin · 14/11/2008 10:01

it does look like on the game to me, 1bat. sorry if I am some kind of prude. but when you add up the makeup, hair, jeans and shoes, sorry. looks cheap.

onebatmother · 14/11/2008 10:02

The thing I find so alluring about him is that he's so kind to the gloves. Takes their concerns seriously, treats them with gentle respect. He would make an excellent lover father [gran]

onebatmother · 14/11/2008 10:03

both gran and grin

onebatmother · 14/11/2008 10:06

Oh dear foxy, I can't be getting into all this 'cheap' business. Implies that looking expensive is better, in terms of values to pass on to our girls. Let women look how they want to, can't we?

But I must go and get soemthing done.

midnightexpress · 14/11/2008 10:09

at treating the gloves kindly. I'm sure that he'd invite all of them down to the pub after the show to join him in his swift half.

foxytocin · 14/11/2008 10:10

no, i meant 'cheap' to pick up on the curb. If you will look like you are on the game then at least look classy at it.

ok, have stopped digging. i know what you mean i don't usually speak this way.

PavlovtheCat · 14/11/2008 10:12

foxy I have to agree, whilst we don't all want to pass value of cheapness or expense, as 1bat states onto our children, I would prefer that DD did not think looking she was on the game as valuing herself .

As to the guy from doodledo. erm. oooooooook,

PavlovtheCat · 14/11/2008 10:17

Now, Justi/Mr Tumble - I used to find him very spooky, but he has grown on me, and I think he is actually quite talented. He does have good rapport with the children. (and he did a really great version of cliff richard the other day rofl). DD loves him. To the point that it is dead on 10:15am and tv was not on, and DD cried out Mr Tumble....! Where are you?!!

So, she is happy eating toast and watching it. And I am happy with that, much rather that than the other.

Foxy - its the early start dear, it does things to you!

Errm..I'm not a troll. The OP was focussed on carrie grants 'image' and the fact that she's too 'skinny'...well she can't help that because she has a serious health issue.

And yes, I think that if you want to critique rapport then it helps if you can spell it correctly.

And actually, I do quite like the pop shop. So there.

onebatmother · 14/11/2008 10:26

Onebat! ONEbat! or OBM! PLEASE not 1bat, I beg you!

(it's going to be 1batmummy isn't it from now on )

"He makes my bottom-bits tingle." lol

Your getting confused with the Fimbles, LLE, and it's top-knot..

Pinkjenny · 14/11/2008 10:26

I'm starting to really like Justin/Mr Tumble. Particularly for the hypnotic state he induces in dd.

I find Carrie and David's Popshop just so false and contrived. I don't remember Carrie being that thin in her early Fame Academy days though.
