Well said. Can't believe how much media space it is taking up. There is an election next week in US and this bollocks took precedent over it in the news. Was about to 'hide' this thread until I realised it was one actually worth reading.

karala · 31/10/2008 18:17

YANBU

this is the media eating itself and I hope it gets indigestion.

Flightattendant4 · 31/10/2008 18:19

Thanks Bumper

RagingHormone · 31/10/2008 18:21

Oh dear she is quite the minger.

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 18:25

Lotser. He didn't make a great deal about it. In fact in his videoed interview (to be found on the BBC website) he seemed rather nonplussed by it all.
I think he'd tell Enid that SINBU.

Flightattendant4 · 31/10/2008 18:32

Yay VS is back!

I just watched the whole thing on youtube. I thought it was actually hilarious. The only thing was it shouldn't have been done on his answering machine - someone else's would have been better, just pretending rather than leaving all that shite on his phone. But it was very very funny. Mostly.

Irreverence of it bothered me a bit as i like the guy - from what VS says he would have just shrugged it off, it was hardly a personal attack.

Flightattendant4 · 31/10/2008 18:40

I don't think it should have been broadcast as it was, though. I just read that the girl they were on about was upset about it, that's not on.

PootyApplewater · 31/10/2008 18:43

Was she upset when it happened, or after 90 squillion people complained about it?
That's a genuine question, btw, as I really don't know.

Yanda · 31/10/2008 18:46

If she was so upset about it how come she was on the front page of The Sun describing all their bedroom antics in great detail?

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 18:47

It looks like she was upset later. After people complained apparently.
It also seems it may not have actually been on his answerphone, but staged as such. If you find his interview on the Beeb the first he heard about it was when someone from the Beeb called him and played it down his mobile phone to him.

Unfortunately, the "most important" news are always the ones nearer to home, involving big figures and lately celebrities.

Sadly, most people will relate to stupid celebrities rather than feeling any empathy or having the inclination to have an involvement with awful news that they cannot do anything to resolve.

Bah!

maretta · 31/10/2008 18:59

I agree with you, although I don't think it's right to call someone a gobshite.

mabanana · 31/10/2008 19:02

I have to admit to raising a wry eyebrow at starting a thread on t'interweb to say you aren't bothered/interested about something. Surely if one is genuinely more interested in other, more important, things, one might start a thread on them? I think the 'it's a storm in a teacup brigade' are sneakily just as interested as anyone else, if they are honest. I agree with bloodshot.

(Yanda, it was definitely NOT great detail!)

pointygravedogger · 31/10/2008 19:02

I think she has humiliated her grandad far more than Ross and Brand did. Describing how her boyfriend imitated him in the bedroom was farily grim.

OrmIrian · 31/10/2008 19:04

No you are not.

slayerette · 31/10/2008 19:07

What irritates me about the whole affair is that after the show was actually broadcast only TWO people complained and that was about Ross swearing. It wasn't until the article in the Daily Rant that everyone else leapt onto the bandwagon.

'Ooh - look what happened on a show I've never listened to. It's scandalous! Must complain about how offended I am by something I didn't hear!'

IMO, the BBc should deal with the original two complaints plus any by the concerned parties - Andrew Sachs and the delightful whatshername (although selling her story to The Sun really boosted her credibility as an injured party ) - and tell everyone else to get a grip and worry about something that actually matters.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 31/10/2008 19:29

I'm sure the rest of Europe look at us as if we are really stupid sometimes

giddykipper · 31/10/2008 19:47

I am so sick of turning on the Radio 4 news and it being the lead article.

BBBeeast · 31/10/2008 20:21

hang on - pointy - she (granddaughter) described how he (lover) impersonated him (manuel??!?!?!) in bed.

weird. ew.

mabanana · 31/10/2008 20:23

No, not in bed, in his bedroom. LIke playing air guitar in his bedroom.
