To be pissed off with people using parent and baby parking when got no kids

This really winds me up. I was at Tesco this morning with 14 week old DS and couldn't find any parent and baby spaces free so had to park in normal bay. I noticed a white works van, a ford street ka (2 seater with no child car seat in it) parked in P and B spots. I had to lock the car and rush round trying to find a trolley with car seat stand on it and then wheel back to the car at the back of the car park.
When I was coming out after shopping I saw a stupid old fart pulling out of a P and B space in their shitty old micra with shock horror no child in the car. I also saw a woman and her daughter who must have been at least 10 yrs old pulling into one of those spaces. They could have easily parked in one of the normal spaces, they were slightly obese, the walk would have done them good. Inconsiderate wankers.

I'm with you wiggles, I've got a 2.5 year old and a 1 month old baby, I NEED those big spaces near the door to get all 3 of us out and into the shop intact. It's true I have a sad life and not much else to think about but I want to start a MN war on those wankers who park in P&B bays ... maybe we can slash their tyres and leave behind a note authorised by MN?!

wheresthehamster · 30/10/2008 15:18

How do you cope at the beach? large park? theme park? small towns? soft play areas? etc

Apart from the large stores and multi-storey car parks I haven't seen many other P & T spaces in car parks.

hambo · 30/10/2008 15:18

Misdee - I found it hard shopping with a baby 'cos I was still full of hormones and used to get stressed really easily about nothing much!

(I think I found everything hard though!)

hercules1 · 30/10/2008 15:21

I think most people on mumsnet tend to think it really doesnt matter about parent and child spaces.

caykon · 30/10/2008 15:21

I actually fing it easier to park near a trolly park as that is the most important thing, not to be wandering off to find a trolley carrying 2 kids. even p & t arn't always close to trolleys

ScareyBitchFeast · 30/10/2008 15:23

what i really want to know is how FAT people manage, in normal parking bays, to get in and out of their cars

Dragonbutter · 30/10/2008 15:25

i think they drive soft tops with a small crane fitted.

ScareyBitchFeast · 30/10/2008 15:26

rofl

hambo · 30/10/2008 15:27

I got stuck outside my car, once. I was 9 months preg and someone parked close to the drivers side and I couldn't get in the car!!!!!!!!!

(someone at the other side too, obv)

I need a soft top and crane thne..

Peachy · 30/10/2008 15:30

Well it wasnt me with the ten year old but how do you know she didnt need that space? ds1 is disabled but has no badge (its more technical than others think) and on the probably-once-ever time i have been ut without ds4 and with him, I have felt free to use the space.

If anyone with a parking issue wishes to swap my life they may have it.

M&B spaces are a priveledge, helpful and a plus: not a right. You shouldnt be driving the car anyhow if you cannot park it so its just a small bonus- like a sunny day or meeting a friend for coffee- if you get onw.

RagingHormone · 30/10/2008 15:32

Why arn't all spaces just bigger? I'm sure there's no need to have so many spaces so they may as well be bigger. Otherwise cars get banged by other people's doors, people struggle to get babies out, disabled people struggle, fat people struggle, etc etc.

nailpolish · 30/10/2008 15:33

"I had to lock the car and rush round trying to find a trolley with car seat stand on it and then wheel back to the car at the back of the car park"

WHY?

why not park at the back of the car park, lift child out of car, walk to trolley, place child in trolley and off you go

RagingHormone · 30/10/2008 15:34

It's probably a little baby who can't sit up in the seats yet. We used the car seat trollies back then too. DS can sit up now though so things are soooooooooooooo much easier.

nailpolish · 30/10/2008 15:35

well in that case

lift child out of car in car seat

MrLSG · 30/10/2008 15:39

Since our local supermarket has introduced "parking supervisors", the amount of people unnecessarily parking in P&B/T places has dropped dramatically.

If you suspect someone is parking in such a place without good justification, they are quite willing to go and stand by the car until the driver returns.

And P&B/T places aren't about making it easier to shop, it's about making sure that the car you are parked next to doesn't get a great big dent in the side as you open your door wide enough to get your child in/out.

RustyBear · 30/10/2008 15:44

I really wonder how I managed 18 years ago with a 2.4 year old & 2 month old and not a P&B space anywhere....

No specially adapted trollies for car seats either - you just had to put it across the end of the trolley.

P&B spaces may make life slightly easier for a tiny proportion of a mum's life - they are not essential & not worth getting upset about.

HelenMc1 · 30/10/2008 16:05

Although I would prefer non small child bearing vehicles not to use P&T spaces and always give the owner a really good mental ticking off, I just drive to the back of the car park where I can find a nice big wide space and carry my ds to a trolley and plonk him in it.

Job done!

mumof2222222222222222boys · 30/10/2008 16:08

I now do on line shopping and very rarely go to supermarkets etc with my 2 small DCs, but it used to really wind me up - I am with the OP. I did have a go at a few selfish able bodied types (outside gym once) and complained in supermarket. It is physically getting babies out of car that is or was my problem. If no P&T spaces available I would drive out of Waitrose (particularly small spaces) and give up.

I also had a problem when about9 months pregnant not being able to get into the car...but I didn't cheat!

So how do you know the mother didnt carry her baby in the car seat into tesco's ???

I am sure M&B bays have only be around 2 or 3 years YABU who cares anymore unless your going to stand by the parking bay and have ago at people that arn't supposed to be there what do you expect to do about it. Maybe when that old person in his shit micra had come the rest of the carpark was full up.

pingping · 30/10/2008 17:15

Also how do you know that these people never had a car seat do you go upto there cars and look in the windows?

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/10/2008 17:33

is more annoying when you see people walk away from cars and have no children

I have been known to block someone in who has done that

never piss me off

KatieDD · 30/10/2008 17:40

To be honest Sainsbury's bays are mother and child parking because since most 8 year olds still have to be in high backed boosters it's still a nightmare parking/shopping with them.
I have a 4 year old I am amazed hasn't been flattened yet the way she darts out of the car too.
At least your baby is contained.
All in all online shopping was invented for a reason

mumof2andabit · 30/10/2008 19:18

I'm with OP it annoys the hell out of me, probably only because my parking is abismal I have a smaller chance of hitting another car in those spaces! The other week I saw an elderly man and his wife get in their car and drive out of a PT space. They had a blue badge but both walked to the car (i know this makes no difference but its relevant) but all the disabled speaces were free!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also another time a single bloke was carrying shopping back to his rather sporty no child seats car, (i was rather hormonal then as well) I started talking rather loudly to DH about how wonderful PT spaces are that they help PARENTS and CHILDREN and rambled on for a long time. As we were about to drive off his wife and 2 young kids came back to the car....... no car seats tho
