To want to ignore namechangers who speak to me as if they "know" me, but are not saying who they are?

So many has left.
So many has changed their names.
So many talk to me as if they "know" me.

I cant just ignore the familiarity in posting, yet I cant just guess who they are.

It is irritating. I cant just wipe knowledge of posters out of my head and chat to everybody like I have never spoken to them before.

I dont like this at all.

I suspect I am unreasonable. I just want to voice my opinion.

I liked it the way it was. I liked to "know" some posters. I dont like that posters "know" me and I dont know them. Like it is now.

Maybe it really is time to leave, as I am a stuck up miserable old cow who embraces change, but not as much as I thought I did.

I don't think QS's issue is with namechanging per se but with people who name change then treat her like they "know" her without saying who they are/were. I find it irritating too even if they probably just don;t realised you don;t know who they are.

Namchanging for privacy presumably you're not behaving as if people should know who you are!

pingping · 27/10/2008 14:57

LOL VT its only because your one of the funniest posters I have came across.

VinegArghhhWasStabbedInTheTits · 27/10/2008 14:59

pingpong you just made my day

pingping · 27/10/2008 15:04

LOL glad to be of service

QuintessentialShadows · 27/10/2008 15:23

I am glad, pingpong has made a lot of people happy. Including me. [vain emoticon]

I am also glad that KC seems to just "get" exactly what I am talking about.

lol, looks like I am the one who is being unreasonable and it's not even my thread

Habbibu · 27/10/2008 15:33

I think I know what you mean, Quint, but at the same time I might post as if I "knew" you, because I've read (and liked) a lot of your posts - BUT, iirc, I don't think we've actually talked much, and have no idea how many of my posts you've seen - so I might appear odd and over-familiar to you too, iyswim?

Habbibu · 27/10/2008 15:34

fwiw, I never have any idea who namechangers are - did wonder where motherhurdicure had got too, mind, so there's one off the list...

stillstanding · 27/10/2008 15:42

YANBU. I can't bear those posts where people go on "do I know you?", "are you who I think you are?", "give us a clue as to who you are" blah blah blah.

So boring, especially to the rest of us who don't have this persona fetish and are actually trying to discuss the topic at hand.

I know there are times when namechanging is A Good Thing and have no problem with name changers per se but namechanging to get attention or which results in the hijacking of a thread is terribly tedious.

cantpickyourfamily · 27/10/2008 15:43

I often namechange as I do not want anyone that I know in real life to read my posts and know it is me. Esp exp. But i am not an old time mumsnetter and I do not know anyones history on MN so would not talk to them like I know them.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 27/10/2008 15:44

I have started a fashion (I hope)

Have namechanged out of boredom, fancied a change

but if you look at my profile, it tells you who I used to be

easy peasy

lemon squeezy

then if people want to namechange for anonymity, they can - but if it's just for fun, why not stick it on the profile?

Habbibu · 27/10/2008 15:46

"So boring, especially to the rest of us who don't have this persona fetish and are actually trying to discuss the topic at hand" - I'd just ignore those posts, then. I find myself v. good at breezily wafting past chat that doesn't concern me...

Habbibu · 27/10/2008 15:47

Bah - I liked your old name! I have a mug from Finland with your picture on it. But sledging, not dancing.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 27/10/2008 15:49

oooh, is it the green one? I have that mug and the bowl. And lots of others too! DP complained that our house had been Moomined when we came back from Finland in the summer.

I shall probably revert sometime soon. Just very bored today!

Habbibu · 27/10/2008 15:50

Yes - the green one! Are you Finnish? I bought mine on a trip to Helsinki. Have seen them in the UK since, sadly.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 27/10/2008 15:55

No, not Finnish but have always loved the Moomins since I was tiny, and have friends in Helsinki. We went to Moominland with them in August - I was over the mooooooooooooooooooooooon!

You can get the china over here but it costs a bomb, and you can't get all the designs. Mind you, it's not cheap in Finland either, especially with the current Euro rate.

Poor DS, he has no choice in loving the Moomins. His room has all the postcards in frames on the wall. Luckily he is in love with the Snork Maiden.

Habbibu · 27/10/2008 15:58

Love Helsinki - just a fab city...

beaniescreamyb · 27/10/2008 16:01

Has this place always had a name changing thing? I have never been on a site before where it was so easy to do!

QuintessentialShadows · 27/10/2008 17:19

But Habibbu, I know you, in as much as I have noticed your posts, you say a lot of sensible and witty things, and even though I havent crossed posts with you much, you are familiar, you have been around ages.

It is different if somebody like you post like you know me. But if RandomDishwasherPenguinQueen does it, I wonder: "who is this?", "Do I know her from here?" Or lo and screaming behold, "Do I know here from real life?"

It is just unnerving.

OP posts:
exasperatedmummy · 27/10/2008 18:07

Quint, im lucyellensmum - but then you probably don't know me anyway

exasperatedmummy · 27/10/2008 18:08

I namechanged because i was an arse when i was LEM

twinsetandpearls · 27/10/2008 18:12

I deserve mumsnet brownie points for posting about my mutton roasting swollen fanjo without namechanging. Mostly because i don;t know who anyone is on here anymore so I don't care. I may put off another meet up though!

BoysAreLikeZombies · 27/10/2008 18:15
LostProphet · 27/10/2008 18:15

I get bored and namechange according to my mood - not to trick any one.

I do have a profile, but it doesn't have my normal name on it.

I forget I have changed and people won't know who I am
