Fair do's it was a good idea, but one that has (I think) contributed to the (alomst) constant tetchyness on MN - think back to the days before the IABU board, when we al had to at least try to be bloody reasonable - that being the point of MN!!

Sorry about that and anyways...I kind of like the idea of self responsiblity and since the AIBU biard came up, things have been getting much less reasonable:

I think this is cos of

Whoever came up/or okayed the board title had no idea of the strength of meme they were unleashing on MN and it has taken over. It wil devour MN and all the good will there in. Just look at channel 5 FGS!

solutiuon - close it down (not an option as I know its so popular) or call it something else not so reasonable - like tantrums and tiaras!

Don't think so. I think I just meant the name and it's instant acessibility..I think anyways

You meant the acronym "AIBU"? Then you are right, it has become a bit of a meme, used pretty much everywhere on MN and beginning to seep outside as well. (Someone had mentioned a lawyer's presentation in RL being titled "Am I being unreasonable?"

Why would you be ticked off by that, though?

AIBU board is not the only unreasonable and aggressive one on MN, by the way. In The News and Baby Names can get sometimes get red hot.

OldLadyDay · 27/10/2008 08:55

Baby names? Who'd oif thought!

I'll have a mosey over

Ahh, Baby Names threads can be quite scary.

shootfromthehip · 27/10/2008 09:10

Whilst I hate to tackle anything seriously, AIBU has provided me with some insight that I have found to be beyond the opinions of those in my RL. I have posted a couple of things that I genuinely thought I had the higher moral ground on, only to be told I don't and for reasons that had not even occurred to me. If that goes, or is 'rebranded' where will I go for people shooting at me from the hip?

Oh and baby names can make me wobble with terror too

ScottishMummy · 27/10/2008 09:10

baby names aye another fight fest.

goes like this

i like hallux vagus its exotic

No its chavvy and common

oi my dd is called hallux vagus

CoteDAzur · 27/10/2008 09:12

Exactly as ScottishMummy said

shootfromthehip · 27/10/2008 09:15

Ha- are we being pretentious calling our LO fangina la fanjo? Don't dare argue or i'll batter you like a cod.

CoteDAzur · 27/10/2008 09:22

If you like it, that's all that matters.

All who say it's a chavvy name that shows you are an idiot are unimaginative people who give boring names to their DCs.

RustyDaviesBear · 27/10/2008 09:55

housemum - no, definitely not RTD, though I did actually use this name on the Dr Who Geeks thread at the end of series 4.

DH is fascinated by memes, which is why I remember their appearance in that episode.

FAQ · 27/10/2008 10:04

I think we should go with the Flat Earth Society topic title of

"angry ranting"

(btw haven't read the rest of the thread_

RustyDaviesBear · 27/10/2008 19:55

It needs splitting:
Mumsnet Jury for threads where the OP genuinely wants an opinion and
Angry Ranting (©FAQ) for the ones where someone just wants to rant/whinge/moan

OldLadyDay · 27/10/2008 20:04

It needs to be called somehting that denotes a bit of excess. Someting that would signal that tou are now going beyond MN city limits and to cross at your own risk. Cos thats what it is now; the badlands. Calling it 'am i being unreasonable' makes it sound - well - too reasonable!

I Heart AIBU it makes my working day go quick and some threads are hilarious

Spaceman · 30/10/2008 13:11

The thing is you are asking to be judged when you post an AIBU thread and it's a green light for posters to really go to town.

I'm hoping sleb twadle and chat don't take over the entire site as they are growing daily.
