Fair do's it was a good idea, but one that has (I think) contributed to the (alomst) constant tetchyness on MN - think back to the days before the IABU board, when we al had to at least try to be bloody reasonable - that being the point of MN!!

Sorry about that and anyways...I kind of like the idea of self responsiblity and since the AIBU biard came up, things have been getting much less reasonable:

I think this is cos of

Whoever came up/or okayed the board title had no idea of the strength of meme they were unleashing on MN and it has taken over. It wil devour MN and all the good will there in. Just look at channel 5 FGS!

solutiuon - close it down (not an option as I know its so popular) or call it something else not so reasonable - like tantrums and tiaras!

Funny how no one has noticed you're bad spelling before OldLady, esp seeing how long you claim to have been here

DippyDora · 26/10/2008 22:55

sda IMO

CapnJadetheKnife · 26/10/2008 22:56

plenty of people mistype on here.

I can think of several of the top of my head.

Not an unusual habit.

ScottishMummy · 26/10/2008 22:56

adn tyrign too hadr too be celevre.summat fishy.

DippyDora · 26/10/2008 22:59

Its not just simple mistyping, its more than that.

I am guilty of misspelling, (they'll never make a pedant out of me) but this is a distinctive style that would have been noticed before now. Just like cod's style was 'noticed'.

Agree with SM -smacks of trying too hard

OldLadyDay · 26/10/2008 23:01

OldLadyDay · 26/10/2008 23:18

And Cod could structure a sentance so we knew what she was talking about, unlike the Oldlady.

She is however living up to her name, rambling on in an incoherrant manner, poor senile old bat.

Yurtgirl · 26/10/2008 23:23

You write longer sentances than Cod could ever be bothered with as well!

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 26/10/2008 23:25

malory types like cod.......

I reckon this should be the PMT topic actually. I mainly only come here then, altho I still am too scared to actually post an AIBU that I know I will get flamed for[hblsuh]

Housemum · 26/10/2008 23:56

Rustybear - how the f did you know that?? (off to dictionary.com to find out what meme means...) - sure you're not Russell T Davies, RussT?! lol

OldLadyDay · 27/10/2008 07:57

DD, if I am not an imposter why are you continuing to try to cast aspersions on my unknown character? Which only shows up your own character in a bit of a bad light.

If yuou have a beef, spell it out.

I know what a "meme" is as well. And so do many others who have read a book by Richard Dawkins, Neal Stephenson, William Gibson etc since the '80s.

OP's use of the word is not really appropriate to what she means, though.

OldLadyDay · 27/10/2008 08:21

Have I?

OP posts:
OldLadyDay · 27/10/2008 08:27

The wiki definition is this

A meme (pronounced /miːm/)[1] consists of any idea or behavior that can pass from one person to another by learning or imitation. Examples include thoughts, ideas, theories, gestures, practices, fashions, habits, songs, and dances. Memes propagate themselves and can move through the cultural sociosphere in a manner similar to the contagious behavior of a virus.

This is exaclty what I meant - isn't it?

Or have I roused the ire of spelling, grammer and typing pedants onh MN everywhere?

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 27/10/2008 08:35

Well, I think you meant the aggression on AIBU boards as a meme that is being transmitted to other boards.

I've only ever seen meme used in the context of a particular idea/knowledge/thought like traditions, racism, the false statement that "we only use 10% of our brains" etc.

I'm not 100% that it can't mean a temperament, though.
