To hate those who 'steal' car parking spaces?

Am I the only one who gets so irate, perhaps overly so, at this situation?

When you have waited patiently for a car that is about to leave its parking space, with your indicator clearing INDICATING your intention to pull into the soon-to-be-vacated space; only for said car to reverse at an awkward angle thus allowing for some jumped up, rude, arrogant, ignorant, hoo ha of a lady to race at speed into the space, almost hitting into the aforementioned reversing car.

We asked her why she had chosen to take a space that we were clearly waiting for. Her response- "Well, it happened to me too. Annoying, isn't it?" She then had the audacity to claim we hadn't been waiting for as long as we had.

I have never been so consumed by blind rage over such a trivial matter, and all I could muster was, "You rude, rude lady!"

YANBU it's rude and reeeaaallllyyyy annoying!

Tidey · 25/10/2008 18:34

Absolutely not unreasonable. It's only ever been done to me once - We were waiting patiently, the driver coming out of the space saw us waiting and knew we were going to use the space, some fecker comes from the other side, he had only just entered the car park, so didn't even have the 'waiting longer' excuse, and drives straight into the space. He and his wife lock up the car and walk off laughing at their ingenuity.

I was so I felt like keying their car. Of course I didn't, but some people are so effing rude.

nooOOOoonki · 25/10/2008 18:39

YANBU grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Salleroo · 25/10/2008 18:43

I hope you keyed her car . I would have had steam coming out my ears. You have to wonder at the cheek of some people. I have to know, what was she driving?

Cupofteaplease · 25/10/2008 18:45

Do you know Salleroo, it was only a little Ford KA. Nipped in like a rat up a drainpipe. I'm still

I pulled into a space once at the same time as someone else, and YES it was a space I'd been waiting for. So there we were, neither of us would budge, so I switched my engine off and got a book out. It didn't take TOO longer for her to get fed up!

But yes I'm on your behalf!

unaccomplishedfattylegalmummy · 25/10/2008 19:50

I would have just parked behind her and blocked her in.

differentWitch · 25/10/2008 19:53

I almost got knocked over by an old bloke cutting up a mitsubishi warrior in Asda car park today as it screamed into a parking space leaving a motorbike sized space between it and the car next to it.

needmorecoffee · 25/10/2008 20:36

cars make people crazy.

MaryBS · 25/10/2008 20:42

I've done that TWICE now Duchess . Works though... .

MaryBS · 25/10/2008 20:43

You would not BELIEVE how angry someone can get to see someone else reading a book

southeastalien · 25/10/2008 20:44

i only get wound up with parking outside my house, it's not worth it at the supermarket

needmorecoffee · 25/10/2008 20:47

yeah, some bugger parks in my disabled bay outside the house and I do get huffy.

Ronaldinhio · 25/10/2008 21:02

it isn't your disabled space though is it?

TheDuchessOfNorksDied · 25/10/2008 21:09

It probably is her disabled space, ron. If you shout at the council long enough, they'll paint the space outside your house.

Can you get these cars towed away needmore? Chap I lived opposite in Maida Vale regularly had cars removed from his space.

Ronaldinhio · 25/10/2008 21:11

nah, even when they paint it outside your house it isn't yours

Anglepoise · 25/10/2008 21:29

This nearly happened to us at hospital when I was nine months' PG (we were there for the guided tour). We'd been looking for a parking space for about 20 minutes so I had to fake labour to guilt-trip the other people into pissing off and finding their own space

Cupofteaplease · 25/10/2008 21:29

I should have said, it was outside a big shopping centre where parking spaces are like gold dust. Had there have been many more, like at the supermarket, I would neither have waited for a particular space, nor been angry about some silly fool taking it!!

What hacks me off the most are the people who get grumpy because parents with children get dedicated parking spaces. I hate being told that parents don't deserve special parking places because it was our choice to have children and we're just selfish for wanting this concession.

I've been told that it's unacceptable that parents with children should get spaces near the supermarket - as if by having them, we are relegating everyone else to the windiest furthest most siberian corner of the carpark - which is blatant rubbish!!

I've had acquaintances boast to me how they will always park in Parent and Child spaces even if there are other equally convenient parking spaces - and it seems like sheer selfishness to me. Their attitude is that because they aren't entitled to this concession, no-one should get it - even though there are good safety reasons for it.

OK - rant over.

Alambil · 26/10/2008 00:58

I spotted someone eyeing up the space I'm about to leave before the car waiting spotted them.... I pulled out in such a way the stealer's face was incandescent with rage..... I parked alongside him and howled with laughter.... then drove off!

Skramble · 26/10/2008 01:06

Don't really have space stealers here, loads of spaces at my local supermarkets, even the one with more limited parking is Ok.

When on holiday the supermarket had limited spaces and I struggle to get in with my big van, lots of cars hovering, so much against my principles I used parent and child, I did have children and I was never gong to get into an other space as people were drawing up so close I couldn't manouvre into a normal space, the turning circle on my van is similar to a small ferry.

I also noticed no one did the little thankyou wave when you let people pass in their car or wait to let them out, all over Scotland most people seem to do this west coast anyway, the area we were visiting near Liverpool, no one seemed to do the wave or even want to let anyone move first

needmorecoffee · 26/10/2008 08:28

I got it painted. Its mine. And I've had non-blue badge holders towed away too

mayorquimby · 26/10/2008 10:58

"I got it painted. Its mine. And I've had non-blue badge holders towed away too"

fair play.but is it treated any differently to other blue badge spaces? i mean it's not actually yours is it,anyone with a valid blue badge can park in it surely.
