... why they think they have a God given right to do this?

I am new to the dropping off at school thing and after one month I felt like a rant.

why oh why do you do it?

Am also at the temporarily disabled comment.

islandofsodor · 22/10/2008 11:42

I did it once. Ds then aged 3 had been sick on the way into school and so I had to allow dd then aged 5 to go into school herself rather than take her to the playground. So I parked on the yellows outside the main reception, shoved her through the gate and shouted to the receptioninst please could she help her and also lend her some tights (she had tried to help clean ds up bless her.)

needmorecoffee · 22/10/2008 12:13

cars have made poeple lazier and lazier and all
me me me me me

iliketosleep · 22/10/2008 12:23

should have been outside my dcs school on monday, it was raining and there was no lollypop man so everyone thought it would be a good idea to park on the lines and the white 'h' bar on the other side of the road so there was literally no gap to get through and if there was then nobody would stop to let you cross, it was disgusting!!

goblinvalley · 22/10/2008 12:29

Yep, gotta agree with laziness and sheer bloody selfishness.

Our school has double yellows, a car park and a turning circle for the school bus. Letters go out, teachers patrol and people still park everywhere including blocking the bus in - whilst they are having a chin wag

It's true - i have observed above people argue with the staff over moving quickly as they hadn't finished arranging their playdate

Now i'm on a roll

Our carpark whilst not huge, does hold a fair few number or cars. Can anyone explain to me (i must be stoopid ) why people would park in between the rows of parked cars ?????? You know the access bit to let everyone out. This happens everyday, morning and afternoon. They pull up late, park 3 or 4 cars deep, off to get the children and when you come back to go home - you can't 'cos some nob is blocking you in and having a bloody meeting with the other lazy gits who are also blocking the carpark aaaargh

gotta go get some chocolate

needmorecoffee · 22/10/2008 12:29

maybe they melt in the rain?

sunnygirl1412 · 22/10/2008 12:34

Ds2 and ds3 (aged 11 and 13) both cycled to school in the rain this morning. However ds1 had to be driven in because the first bike he tried had a massive puncture and the second one broke its hub as he got to the end of the road, so he had to come home and beg a lift, otherwise he'd have been late. I wasn't dressed yet and seriously considered doing the school run in my nightshirt and a hoodie - but didn't!

Still didn't park on the double yellows, though.

onager · 22/10/2008 12:43

Maybe some people should form a protest group to get an independent body put in charge of the double yellow lines. Maybe they are misused. Some speed limits are daft too.

In the meantime it's not up to drivers to decide that their convenience is more important than other people's safety.

I think my ideal job would be traffic warden

I was actually hit by someone parked on the zigxags at our school about a year ago , I don't remember much but on what my CM told me I threw ds3 out of the way- all I know is I was holding him in my left hand, twat reversed and then I had an injured hand and ds3 was clear.

he swore at me and drove off.

It's a huge issue here; Is aw an old lady threatened for asking someone to move his car (he had aprked across entrance to her house and she couldnt get her car in the lot), and we have had people park right up to our front door before blocking us in so we can't get out (no back gate)

Really makes me

So many perfect people on Mumsnet it is lovely isn't it. I am sometimes selfish, lazy and thoughtless. I am honest.

"having a baby is like being temporarily disabled"

No, having a baby is like having a heavy bag of shopping. Twunts.

I don't think there is ever a valid reason to park on the yellow zig zags outside a school.

filz · 22/10/2008 13:03

unless school was closed and it was the middle of the night and you had ran over a poor defenceless kitten

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 22/10/2008 13:04

I think it's rather pathetic to bleat about how it's appropriate to park illegally because you can't be ar$ed to get a baby out of the car. It's not difficult.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 22/10/2008 13:06

Obvioulsly it's Ok to oark on the zigzsags outside of the operational times (which at our school are something like 8:30 - 10 and 2:30 - 4:00, term time only. IIRC) Therefore the runover kitten at midnight would be fine (although the kitten should have been safely tucked up in bed at that time)

Peachy · 22/10/2008 13:08

'So now the farkers just park all round the surrounding streets, sitting in their cars from 8.15 '

At 2pm there will be people aprked outside my house with a book and a flask of coffee.

WHY????????

The school offerend to put on parking spaces at the end of the village and do a walking bus that could take the kids from there- 5 minute walk. Not one take up. I just don't get it.

The disabled comment / baby thing- . I have both. I know the difference!

"

LOL! I@ve kind of done this when I've been out and it would be pointless to go home but is really too early for school pick up. It's not a book at the moment though, I play Lego Indiana on my DS

islandofsodor · 22/10/2008 13:14

I agree there would have been alternatives in my case the one time I did it.

  1. Go back home and dd not go to school that day
  1. Leave a vomiting 4 year old ds in the car whilst I walk dd to school
  1. Allow 5 year old dd to walk to school alone.

We are not perfect and make judgment calls according to circumstances at the time.

Parking is actually very good at my children's school, they have a car park and lots of on street 1 hour only parking to the extent that I often park at school then walk into town rather than parking in town.

islandofsodor · 22/10/2008 13:16

WHY????????

I've done this loads of time. It is 8 miles home so if I've been shopping or finished work early or before ds started school took him to Tumble Tots I'll sit and read until school comes out.

needmorecoffee · 22/10/2008 13:29

'but don't believe that none of you ever speed, talk on the phone whilst driving, have the radio up too loud etc. It is all a bit sanctimonious really'

Nope. Honestly say I don't do any of those things.
