...were bottom of the public vote, even though it was obvious to anyone with eyes in their head that they weren't the worst two dancers?

OP posts:

Now if it were my George I were exposing......(hands off, snowdon!!)

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 21/10/2008 09:32

Tom's youtube dancing thing has been around for ages asnd is widely known

cocoleBOO · 21/10/2008 09:36

YABVU the contestants already voted off have been white.

tessofthedurbervilles · 21/10/2008 09:43

I didn't think they deserved to be out and the voting was tactical on the part of the public but I hope it was nothing to do wth race....crikey I thought that didn't happen anymore?

bythepowerofgreyskull · 21/10/2008 09:45

I love that you tube.. hadn't seen it before.

To the OP I think that sadly Heather Small has been out of the public eye for too long - had she been at the height of her career (she wouldn't have done the show) she would have got more of the votes.. DH didn't have a clue who she was and I can honestly say that she didn't dance very well.. Not because she is black but because she didn't.

Yes there were far worse dancers, Jon and Andrew should have been in the bottom 2 but Andrew is being plugged every morning by GMTV and Jon is being plugged every night on the Once Show with Christine..

If Heather doesn't dance well next week she may be in the bottom 2 again - if she was there with Jon the judges would save her because she is a better dancer than Jon.. nothing to do with skin colour at all.

darkpunk · 21/10/2008 09:50

nothing to do with being black..one of them was from a rubbish band from the 90's, and the other one from a comedy from about 60 years ago...hardly well known are they?...plus they were crap.

harpomarx · 21/10/2008 09:52

I sincerely hope there wasn't any racism involved - I think there were pretty lousy reasons why the public voted for Mark and Andrew though and I think they have a lot less potential than Heather and Don, who have both performed better than they did this week. And even their dances this week were better than Mark and Andrew's attempts, which were fairly painful to watch. John's dance was in a different league of awfulness of course but I'd still like to see him dance again. I would pay good money not to see Andrew dance again. Ever.

JulesJules · 21/10/2008 09:53

Oh FFS. YABU. FOUR people have already been voted off - all white. Is that racist? Heather and Don were in the mid table, absolutely the worst place to be, the people at the bottom get the pity vote and/or the sadistic vote. Popularity also counts - the GMTV effect, for example. This happens in every single series.

Neither Heather or Don danced very well, nothing like as well as Gabby Logan who was knocked out in week 4 of the last series. And she's white. That series was won by Alesha Dixon. The series before won by Mark Ramprakash. Previous finalists (and Xmas special winners) are Colin Jackson (who would have won, but for a disastrous show dance in the final) and Denise Lewis.

You are being very unreasonable!

Cheesesarnie · 21/10/2008 10:01

i dont watch it but ofcourse it not racist if the bottom two happened to be black.if the bottom two were white -would that be racist also?

yabu.

darkpunk · 21/10/2008 10:07

i know...probably one of the most ridiculous threads ive ever seen on here....and that's saying something!

MsSparkle · 21/10/2008 10:23

I said to my dp that there will be someone out there saying it's racist because two black people were in the dance off and i was right!

You didn't hear any white people saying it was racist last year when Alesha won did you?

It was just pure coincidence that the two black people were bottom this week. Last year Gabby and Penny weren't the worst dancers but still ended up in the dance off against eachother!

I think YABU and need to get the paranoid chip off your shoulder!

Cheesesarnie · 21/10/2008 10:24

but why would it even cross anyones mind.surely it was two people in the bottom two-not two black people?????

Helsbels4 · 21/10/2008 10:26

Unfortunately, I think that some people just look far too deeply for racism issues that aren't even there in the first place. Until I read the title of this thread, I hadn't even noticed that they were both coloured and I watched it!!! (I was too busy willing Don to get through ). Does everything have to always equate to colour ffs? I had no idea who the woman was, so I wouldn't have voted for her, Andrew has all his women viewers voting, that other bloke had that hideous see-through top on although what anyone sees in him is beyond me, makes me shudder! Public voting is always hit-and-miss on these types of programmes imo.

pagwatch · 21/10/2008 10:39

it is nonsense.
That is to imply that it is not about dancing.
Its like suggesting that Andrew Castle is only still on because middle aged women like smarmy blokes with big hair and that Mark Foster gets votes because he has fab pecs and wears see through tops to appeal to the middled aged women and closet gay vote and ....and...and ...

oh.
As you were.

Elffriend · 21/10/2008 10:40

Completely irrelevant post but I had a huge crush on Don when he was Philip in Rising Damp

DaphneMoon · 21/10/2008 10:40

It is people like you seeker that cause racism. I am so angry with this thread, I am seething. I am sick, sick, sick to death of pussyfooting around, daren't say this daren't do that, just in case I am being racist. They were probably at the bottom because they were not very good, or is your tiny mind not capable of comprehending that. Why are we so frightened? How come a white person can be racist but so many coloured, black ethnics etc aren't? Here is a prime example. MOBO awards. Am I right in thinking that this is music awards for black people? But if we had a special awards ceremony for white music we would be accused of racism. It really pisses me off. I personally think the MOBO awards are racist towards white people. We simply would not be allowed a white muic awards ceremony. Racism is caused by people like you OP because I should not think it occured to most people that there were two black people in the dance off. Get a life.

Elffriend · 21/10/2008 10:40

Pag..Spot on!

Elffriend · 21/10/2008 10:42

stray S in racism...

pagwatch · 21/10/2008 10:44

Elffriend

I thought he was just gorgeous in Rising Damp too..

Elffriend · 21/10/2008 10:51

I think it was partly his voice -sooo silky.

And the half smile that was always playing on his face.

And the charm.

sigh.

littleredcorvette · 21/10/2008 11:55

DaphneMoon - Actually, you are wrong in thinking that the MOBO awards are "for black people".
The awards stands for Music of Black Origin, it doesn't mean that you have to be black to win one! Some winners are white and quite a few are mixed race, although perceived by many as being black (but that's a whole other different story....)

Past winners include: 1997 - Prodigy (Best Dance Act), Mick Hucknall (Outstanding Achievement), 1998 - All Saints (Best Video), 1999 - Eminem (Best International Singer), 2000 - Eminem (Best Hip Hop Act), Tim Westwood (Best UK Radio DJ), 2003 - Justin Timberlake (Best R'n'B Act), Christina Aguilera (Best Video) Tim Westwood (Best UK Radio DJ), 2004 - Jamie Cullum (Best Jazz Act).
There are probably others, but the website I got the info from only goes up to 2004

(sorry for hijacking the post )

DaphneMoon · 21/10/2008 12:01

Ok so we can have a MOWO awards then and it won't be considered racist.....yeh right! Not disputing your info Little, but you have to admit the title needs changing from MOBO.

Cheesesarnie · 21/10/2008 12:11

mobo awards on wiki-
'Controversy has surrounded the name of the awards since its outset.[2] Some people[who?] argue that styles of music cannot be linked to skin colour in any useful way, and implying such promotes unnecessary racial differences that are not echoed in any other music genre. The history of music shows that people of different races have influenced both 'black' and 'white' music especially in music such as jazz or rock and roll. For example, Western music influences and has been influenced by Asian music. Alternative names for the awards have been suggested, such as "Music Influenced By Peoples With African Heritage" or the "Modern Urban Music Awards" in order to distinguish it from musical genres such as country music, folk music and classical music, which are considered by some to be music of 'white' origin or, more accurately, European origin.'

but anyway.............

still think op is being unreasonable

GColdtimer · 21/10/2008 12:22

YABU. I just don't honestly believe this was about race. It hadn't even occurred to me until I saw this thread.

As for reasons why worse dancers weren't in the dance off:

-the GMTV viewers probably voted for Andrew because they like him

-lots of women (and possibly men) want to see a bit more of Mark's body - I mean that shirt did liven up an otherwise dull Saturday night in

I think you are looking too deeply.
