I don't post much, normally lurk. This is my first AIBU so please be gentle!!!

DP and I have been together for 4 years and own a house together. FIL is a financial advisor. DP and I were sorting out our wills and we sent them to FIL to basically advice and help us.

Anyway, I didn't know what was in DPs will, turns out he is leaving everything to me. Well, I have a cat that ive had for many years since long before DP. I had put in my will that half was to go to DP and half to my Mum to look after the cat.

After seeing the wills FIL rung up DP to tell him about my will, the contents of it basically that I was leaving half to my Mum. AIBU to think it was totally not hos place to do this? AM soooo angryy!!

Sorry I don't know you and I am not going to give chapter and verse on a poster.

Cod posted here a lot, she was the originalold schooler, couldn't type very well.

She left because people from real life recognised her.

But, how old is the mum? Seing as the woman expected to be outlived by both her cat and her mum??

wehaveallbeenthere · 19/10/2008 18:39

Thanks tonightsthenight. Was just wondering.
Quint, I think they mentioned it was someone that they spoke to/worked with who was having this problem and not the original poster.
Regardless, I think the cat (dependent on its health and age) can live to be 20? Rare but it happens and if it is an inddor cat kept in good health (as may be the case since she is concerned with it's welfare after she dies) could very well be one of those rare cases.
Of course it could always run outdoors and be struck by a car or runaway etc. This is why one makes a will in the first place. We never know how we will go, just that eventually we all do.

wehaveallbeenthere, that is why I referred to her as "the woman" rather than the OP.

pamelat · 19/10/2008 19:50

Unreasonable of FIL (and maybe a breach of confidentiality?) but hopefully you would have told your DP anyway?

wehaveallbeenthere · 19/10/2008 20:14

sorry Quint, I'm a little slow on the draw today. DH has sceduled dinner guests and I've got too much catching up to be done before. I probably shouldn't even be on Mn today.
