I can totally understand why you would abbreviate YANBU, or IYSWIM etc, but it takes no time to type, son, daughter, husband, partner, they're one word!

It makes my teeth grind a bit everytime I red DD1 and DS2, beccause I would never say,
"Why, let me tell you about my dear daughter, or my dear partner", it makes me CRINGE!

Does anyone else feel a twat writing these?

I used to asbolutely hate it when I started on mn.

But you get used to it and it doesn't even register any more. That's not a good thing, of course. It means I have been sucked in.

pointygravedogger · 17/10/2008 16:14

so YANBU at all.

It's them, lotster, it's not us.

gingerninja · 17/10/2008 16:15

But it's quicker, it's not real life and I for one don't think in my head Dear Husband or whatever when I write it or in fact read it. You'll get used to it.

Lotster · 17/10/2008 16:18

MorrisZapp - ohhhhhhh that's what it means??? bleurgh. Christ, theose people probably also refer to each other as mummy and daddy all the time.
So, who's gonna out me out of my misery on AF?

pointgravedogger, you are now one of the family, you will never escape ... actually, I'm quite interested the meaning of your name too. And your ahem, hobbies if the last word of it is anything to go by??

YABU I have been know to say DS in RL!

BetteNoire · 17/10/2008 16:18

I think it's optional.
Try it and see.

potatofactory · 17/10/2008 16:19

eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww!

I had no idea what Baby dancing was!!!

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

The least sexy thing I have EVER heard

bbbbbaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrfffffffffff

freeview15 · 17/10/2008 16:19

it's no good using H usually, as posters tend to do this when they have fallen out with their DH, and have lost the right to the D.

potatofactory · 17/10/2008 16:20

yes - what IS AF?

is it grim?

chipmonkey · 17/10/2008 16:21

When I started on MN, I did think it a bit odd that everyone on MN had named their son/daughter a name beginning with "d"!. But tbh, I have 4 sons and having to type out which one I meant every time I mentioned them would be v. hard work, especially as most of the time I am typing one-handed with a baby on my lap!

starzzz · 17/10/2008 16:21

lol when babydancing was said in this post (ive never seen it before) i did picture the ally mcbeal baby dancing about lol. What is AF?

AMumInScotland · 17/10/2008 16:22

AF = Auntie Flo = period in real life

Majeika · 17/10/2008 16:22

AF is aunty Flo or another word for period!!!!

starzzz · 17/10/2008 16:23

I never would have figured out the AF! Who makes these up? lol

Mandelbrot · 17/10/2008 16:24

I yearn to defile to conception threads with phrases like "he fucked me to a cinder and I'm still not up the fucking duff, what is he, a jaffa?" and "it's cd15; if we squelch tonight will I have twins?" because baby dancing is the worst term in the history of the world.

Lotster · 17/10/2008 16:24

Ahh, that's not too bad. How about creating a better one like GTPI (Got the painters in) Or RW (rag week). sorry, bit rude but I have the wind up my tail a bit today.

Flamesparrow · 17/10/2008 16:25

I don't like it, but I do it because it is easier. I do put Flameboy and Flamechick about 50% of the time though, it makes them seem more real or summat, I dunno.

Flamesparrow · 17/10/2008 16:28

I hate AF and BD though.

It is a period, or if you have to euphamise it, go with moon or summat that actually relates in some way.

BD - you are having sex. Making love is tender, a f*ck is more raw - conception stuff is just sex (well, it can be the others too, but for this instance...)

Lotster · 17/10/2008 16:30

Feeling a bit more sensible now...

I agree Flamesparrow, bit more personal than DS and DD.

And when you start putting numbers after it it makes them sound like "just a number".

Can't kep up with this speedy thread...

Mandelbrot, you just made me cough up a lung laughing. I hope you're happy.

I always remember the children who are named like that - BabyDragon, and the small dragons... the Inferiorettes (or is it ites?) etc.

potatofactory · 17/10/2008 16:36

mine would be baby new potatoes - or just chips. Much better...

Flamesparrow · 17/10/2008 16:37

Chips def

Twiglett · 17/10/2008 16:37

no

and yes you're being unreasonable. If you don't like it don't do it

pointygravedogger · 17/10/2008 16:37

this is my ugly hallowe'en name, lots
