No I will not put the heating on yet....they can in true Famous five style get another blardy layer of clothes on instead of running around half naked!!!

The heating is not going on till November I tell you....tis part of my economy drive

I keep saying that but I can no longer feel my nose!

controlfreakinfreaky · 29/09/2008 23:43

dressing gowns? slippers? do you live in the 1950's?

seeker · 30/09/2008 00:18

You are not being unreasonable on not putting your heating on. You are being unreasonable in telling them to put their dressing gowns and slippers on. If they want to be cold that's theri problem. Tell them that they will be warmer if they put more clothes on and then leave it at that.

I think November might be a bit hopeful. How abotu mid October?

Ashantai · 30/09/2008 00:21

My heating has been on already! I have the opposite to you tho. My kids and OH are quite happy to sit in tshirts and shorts while i'm covered from head to toe in more layers than the michelin man

arfishy · 30/09/2008 00:33

Aren't we allowed dressing gowns and slippers any more? . When did they become old-fashioned?

Oh, YANBU btw, I tell DD about this all the time (ok, it's hardly freezing here, but I suffer when it drops below about 20')

solidgoldbrass · 30/09/2008 00:36

My DS will not wear a coat without a battle. Now he is 4 I ahve decided that there must simmply be Geordie blood on my side of the family tree and let him get on with it.

nappyaddict · 30/09/2008 02:12

YANBU if they keep moaning about being cold. say they do that or stay cold!

Our heating is on a thermostat and it doesn't come on until room temp is below 16. Don't know what month it will be this year. I don't stick to a particular month cos some octobers are much colder than others.

stoppinattwo · 30/09/2008 07:19

CFF ....hence the famous five comment

Oh I just get fed up of them whinging about being cold and yet they will insist in hardly wearing a stitch of clothing....and in the morning or evening they will sit and dither (it isnt that cold!!!)

THey both have slippers and really cosy dressing gowns and tbh I might be being a bit tight but I dont see he point in getting the house up to trpoical temperatures for an hour in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening to just let it all cool down when we have left for the day or have gone to bed.

I suppose im cheating with the "not turning the heating on til november" as we are away on holiday for a couple of week at the end of October so I wont be touching the heating then

Avenap...I shall start knitting you a nosewarmenr

dressing gowns and slippers sound odd to me too

I thought small children didn't feel the cold

no heating on here yet either

LazyLinePainterJane · 30/09/2008 07:27

I am holding out until November as well. Until the baby arrives.

Maybe she will be early

lulumama · 30/09/2008 07:27

no heating on here.. mine have slippers on but no dressing gowns ! then they complain they are cold.i have no sympathy. we did have the fire lit lsat night, it was lovely and cozy

bellavita · 30/09/2008 07:30

We all wear dressing gowns, but the Ds's will not wear slippers though.

psychomum5 · 30/09/2008 07:36

all mine have dressing gowns and slippers.

they love them

they especially love the dressing gown ties as they seem to think it far better fun to tie each other up with them.

TrinityRhino · 30/09/2008 07:40

all my kids have dressing gowns and slippers

gecko looks so cute

but then we live in soething akin to a barn its THAT draughfy (how do you spell that?)

heating is on for an hour in the morning so that my teeth can stop chattering long enough to talk to the kids

we are in scotland, we had frost the other day

I set the thermosat at 18 and if it needs it it would come on.

It not that cold in beds it was still about 12degrees last night.

I do wonder what people will do when winter actually arrives.

There is one little girl at dd1 school who is already wearing a furhat, scarf and gloves, when it is about 14 in the morning and 18 in the afternoon.

spudballoo · 30/09/2008 07:53

Heating is on in the morning for an hour and the same early evening. I live in a 16th century cow shed and it's freeeezing. My boys, 3 and 1, have slippers but not dressing gowns. I suspect the belts would be a huge hit for tying each other up with...

TrinityRhino · 30/09/2008 08:03

when we leave in the morning recently it has been 8

and the draughts make it feel much colder in the house

all three of my kids dont want to get up this moornin and we have to leave at 8.30

PerkinWarbeck · 30/09/2008 08:28

I have just moved from a modern flat in London to a draughty 100 year old semi in the North, with bare floorboards and one-inch gaps between the doors and the floor. And it's rented so we can't change things .

The heating is on for about 3hours/day and I'm still freezing.

I'm off to buy slippers and dressing gown for DD this morning.

lulumama · 30/09/2008 08:35

where did you move to in the end perkin?

AbbaFan · 30/09/2008 08:41

I dug out my kids dressing gowns just this morning - but they didn't wear them for long.

No heating on in my house yet either.

I think we have all got way too used to just turning the heating on, instead of wearing winter clothes. Hence why some people think it's old fashioned to wear slippers and DG's.

YANBU

I didn't realise it was old fashioned to have slippers and dressing gowns (and I am fairly young). I think they look cute on the DCs - mine have been wearing them for the last week or so after bathtime whilst having their story, and at breakfast. They are still little though and easily manipulated! Don't wear my own dressing gown much though. Prefer to stick a jumper on.

cupsoftea · 30/09/2008 08:49

same here - except the slippers are like socks & disappear!

PerkinWarbeck · 30/09/2008 09:24

lulu, we're in the very lovely, if slightly damp Prestwich .
