This is what i felt like saying to the woman who told my DD to SHUT UP in the tesco post office just now. My DD was shouting at our dog who was outside the shop. She was saying hello hello hello hello - yeah it was loud but she was upset over something anyway (just had wee wee accident) so i didnt want to tell her off. The woman turned round and told my DD to shut up - she thought i didn't see. To my shame i gave her the finger (original!) and she turned to the counter staff and obviously proceeded to berate me for being common as muck. I guess she must have been right because the thread title was what i really wanted to say.

Grrrrrrr

justaflyingvisit, I think it sounds like a bad circumstances happening. The woman was wrong to try to discipline your child in that fashion...she should have asked you to talk with your child IMO, I was taught that shouting was for emergency only (the boy who cried wolf) and you were wrong for your gesture at her.
I don't know how you would put down a "fishwife" as she probably supplies the fish.
The big question now is how will you handle things in the future?

I think you handled it beautifully, OP - and if anyone ever short changes you, or fails to stick your stamps on straight, just go right ahead and nut them.

TheFallenMadonna · 25/09/2008 00:22

snort

S1ur · 25/09/2008 00:22

pmsl Lapin I did get a moments thread confusion when I read Pan's post.

{grin]

But see I am being silly and not sensible.

Pan · 25/09/2008 00:26

Wow LL. No, didn't see it. But now you ARE scaring me......

Saturn74 · 25/09/2008 00:27

Oh, it's you, LEM.
You are a very big silly sometimes.

Pan · 25/09/2008 00:27

you're being very silly, Slur. Just stop it.

S1ur · 25/09/2008 00:30

I am I know.

It is a fault. Okay will stop posting on this thread .

Saturn74 · 25/09/2008 00:32

There are lots of people being silly and not sensible.
I am behind the times.
I thought morose will still de rigueur.

Pan · 25/09/2008 00:38

Afore yee go Slur..remember a while back a question I had about women changing their minds and how disconcerting this was? Ring any bells??

S1ur · 25/09/2008 01:01

Yes I remember Pan, has they been progress? Do you now know each others minds to point of boredom avoiding awkwardness?

Is she an open book?

S1ur · 25/09/2008 01:04

Humph morose is only the thang in company of same old and/or prememptively festive. Then morose takes on a new cool like winter shorts.

Otherwise stop being a grump

Pan · 25/09/2008 01:10

Well, I started a conversation with "Can I say something?....." She denied this "charming" feature of her personality - caused a BIG row...and some crossings of swords. We have ALMOST got to the point of humourful rollings of eyes when she indicates "an adjustment of position" on stuff..it takes time this relationship malarkey, n'est-ce pas?

Open book?? HA! and HA! I prise it open with a jemmy and keep it open with a vice. And I'm still on Ch1 I fear.

Saturn74 · 25/09/2008 01:11

Bah mintballs!

S1ur · 25/09/2008 01:17

Well Pan she has ishoos, no? SHe doesn't feel ready to spill so fair enuff, but gawd annoying for you.
SO you tried the 'can I just interject...?'

I suggest the several ponged apporach

Some of 'we (inc dc) are going to have picnic blah blha, come we want you too'
and a bit of the fancy a coffee and a trip to show?'
And a wee bit of 'oi you. me. dinner and shag. now.'

One of them must fit surely???

S1ur · 25/09/2008 01:19

Humph. I join you in 'bah' behviour. I am supposed to be having some hot lovin' but I am not. so.

Bah. Mintballs or otherwise.

Saturn74 · 25/09/2008 01:35

I think "the several ponged apporach" sounds eminently sensible.

yummymummy1405 · 25/09/2008 07:13

yanbu I think. Your daughter your rules. I think it is very rude to tell someone elses child to shut up and would have reacted similarly to you if not worse. I'm not common as muck honestly......

piratecat · 25/09/2008 07:34

had someone told my kid to 'shut up' I would have been v peed off.

It is a rude thing to say. Not sure I would have given the finger, but can understand, being under pressure in that environment, that the anger made you do what you did!

I gave someone the finger from the safety of my car a few months ago. My hand sort of shot up from nowhere, and took me rather by surprise!!!

justaflyingvisit · 25/09/2008 10:06

You stupid pug faced miserable old bitch, and you fuckers behind the counter can fuck off as well

You honestly thought this would go down as an unanswered thread?

Thanks for the link LL

I honestly did, well maybe a few answers but its still going - woohooo!!!!! Reading this morning i can gauge the pissedness of the posters .

I promise never to ever stick my finger up at anyone ever again, until next time. Still don't think i was in the wrong, I should add that i was some distance from the woman so my actions were not threatening in any way, and i definately didn't swear at her. Now had it have been my mother who heard, i would have been posting something quite different, common as muck on muck that woman

justaflyingvisit · 25/09/2008 10:33

Right, thats it, im flouncing off to the deregister button now. No, really, well not flouncing but blimey, how easy is it to fall back into old routines, its 10.30 and DD is whiney because mummy has been on mumsnet for the past hour . How do you guys maintain a balance - ahhhh, i know, you don't post daft threads like this one and then feel you have to defend yourself because you have made yourself look like an arse!!!

Genuinely sorry if this thread has offended anyone, but has it really? Or have you enjoyed a mini judge fest , feel free, i was an arse to post it.

So, thats it, off i go - oiiil be back!!

TopBitch · 25/09/2008 11:13

I'm amazed and a bit disgusted at the people on this thread. To the OP, everyone has bad days, let it pass. it sounds like you're having a bad day to me and ccould use a glass or wine

BarbieLovesKen · 25/09/2008 15:15

I think it would have been so much worse if you hadnt stood up for your dd and allowed her to be spoke to in this manner..

Obviously dont think you should have given the finger exactly but in the heat of the moment and all that..

MamaG · 25/09/2008 15:17
