Oooo! It really gets my goat! I have sent a few friends from work a text to see if they fancy getting together for a meal out (I'm cuurently on mat leave). I sent the txt FRIDAY and only 2 out of the 4 of them have replied, and the 2 that did reply took 3 days to do so!!! It realy makes me cross, and makes me feel quite worthless tbh, as if I'm not important.

I also have other friends who whenver I am with them have their phone on them constantly, and always reply to texts etc, yet when I text them, they take hours or even day sto reply.

AIBU to think this is just downright rude, esp when the text asks a question that demands an answer!!

Not short tempered, just don't like rude people

Maybe they reply to texts when you see them as that's their only chance to do so? When they're out with their bags/phones whatever? Maybe they do it so they look popular?

I honestly never check mine, which is bad and I felt awful that I'd let my friend down.

incredulous · 24/09/2008 10:17

I know, Oh fuck!
No, Denny is very good

Ok, enough already, I get the hint. My baby is screaming her head off, maybe that's why I am so unreasonable

but you're rather assuming that they're being rude, which the responses that you're getting on here contradict. (hence the reason you're ignoring them).

incredulous · 24/09/2008 10:20

very good point Aitch.

Oh, I've got a friend who does this - constantly takes calls or replies to texts when in my company but doesn't reply to my texts.

It is annoying.

Ok this is what happens with me: i get a text (usually im in work or seeing to ds2) read it, put phone down, think to myself 'will reply to that when i get a chance' a minute later and i have forgot, so many things to do that i just dont remember to reply. YABU, just send a reminder text or ring them.

incredulous · 24/09/2008 10:23

yes chequers it is very annoying

Cappuccino · 24/09/2008 10:24

RING PEOPLE UP FGS

Chequers · 24/09/2008 10:25

Thing is - all these responses; i get sidetracked/mean to then forget/can't be arsed to fiddle about do all pretty much amount to that the sender isn't that important.

ImNotOnline · 24/09/2008 10:26

What is more annoying is people who insist on sending me texts. Phone me FFS if you can't be bothered to even do that why should i bother to reply?

Aitch · 24/09/2008 10:27

lol. yes, texts should be for emergencies only then people would reply.

Cappuccino · 24/09/2008 10:27

yes

I have a friend who texts me saying 'do you want to get together'

I ring her up and she does not answer the fecking phone

I KNOW SHE IS THERE SHE HAS JUST TEXTED ME

ImNotOnline · 24/09/2008 10:27

Chequers Equally the person who is getting the text can't be that important to the sendee if they can't even find the time to give them a quick call.

Chequers · 24/09/2008 10:29

Also true ImNotOnline.

Aitch · 24/09/2008 10:30

we keep returning to 'they don't like you'. but not with a sprinkling of 'you don't like them'. modern life IS rubbish.

Aitch · 24/09/2008 10:31

Now, not not.

PuppyMonkey · 24/09/2008 10:31

I too have the best intentions about replying to texts, but usually get sidetracked on other things - as most people do. Then I just forget to reply because I have no brain. It's not being rude, it's just real life taking over and/or me having a senior moment.

I'm a great believer in ringing folk up if you want a definite answer there and then.

MissMarpleTastic · 24/09/2008 10:36

I'd stop texting altogether, use the necessary phone calls as an excuse for an hour alone, and take the phone up to the bath

How is babyH Aitch?

ImNotOnline · 24/09/2008 10:37

Right so, everybody hates everybody else

Mobile phones should be banned and maybe people would begin to like people again

FabioVicePeeperPlopper · 24/09/2008 10:37

Sometimes it's more convenient to text.
I don't answer my phone on the bus because everyone is just snouting into your conversation and you end up making awful double entendres when you're in fact talking to a mechanic about your motorbike.

"Yes, yes, I must have one with a flange."
"Oh it is a big one, and the hard bit catches my thigh when I put my leg over"
"It makes a loud noise the faster I'm riding"
"It sort of rumbles, but it's the vibrations I find most distracting. Maybe if you shoved it in quite quickly it wouldn't get stuck, can you do that?"

incredulous · 24/09/2008 10:38

If I am trying to arrange a date by phone with 5 people it means I have to phone all 5, and if no 5 can't do that date then I have to phone them all again to sort out another date, that's why I text.

Also just generally quite hard to have even a brief phonecall if you have a crying baby around most of the day, and when they are not around, I have to cook dinner, do housework.....come on MN

MissMarpleTastic · 24/09/2008 10:41

Just call them all, say what dates can you do?
Write a list of all possible dates. See which tally up. Then make the decision.
