As did all of the other twats who park on the normal yellow lines opposite the school screwing up the traffic flow for everyone else?

I felt a quiet glow when the traffic wardens were out in force!

Very reasonable indeed to restrain yourself to quiet satisfaction!

The Head and Caretaker at DS's school were out the other day, policing the lazy 'parking enforcement' man who had been shrugging off the people who droppped kids off on the zig zags, saying 'they're not really parking'. They had digital cameras, and eveything, to document his crapness!

imananny · 22/09/2008 23:57

the lines are there for a reason, safety of the children and their parents

YANBUAA (at all)

annie, if your child is disabled, you should be able to get/use a badge to make parking easier

solo · 23/09/2008 00:19

Hooray!

NoBiggy · 23/09/2008 00:52

Yessssssssssss!

balmain · 23/09/2008 01:21

YANBU.
I like it when the wardens linger behind a large tree outside our school, leaping out at the last moment brandishing the ticket.

AngryParker · 23/09/2008 09:57

I know I'll be flamed for this,so I've name changed(sorry).
I've noticed(as has everyone else)that the vast majority of car school runners that flout the law by dropping off/parking on yellow school markings and park on the pavement and drive on the wrong side of the road(actually turning into the side roads on the wrong side)to do so, are African and because their cars are bigger than average(why is that?)they completely block up the roads. They are very inconsiderate. There are of course other races that do stupid things, but this is a daily occurance and problem. I don't know how they get away with it. I know I wouldn't if I behaved so irresponsibly. There'd be a traffic warden there immediately if I did it.

Oh. My. God.

onepieceoflollipop · 23/09/2008 10:01

Op YANBU. I think you have made the day for most of us!

AngryParker · 23/09/2008 10:05

I'm not the only one to see it, people are always talking about it, eyeballs rolling, tut tutting etc, even other black parents...but maybe I'm the only one to voice it here.

Bramshott · 23/09/2008 10:07

AP - not in Hampshire they're not, and there are enough people parking badly in big cars here too!

OP - I think quietly satisfied is very restrained of you - I would be punching the air!!

prettybird · 23/09/2008 10:11

AP: as a proportion, I'd say that the worst cuplrits at our school are white parents. About 50% of the cuplirts are white - but as the school is over 60% ethnic minorites, then that means that the ethnic minorty parents oare "bettera".

But in all cases, it does tedn to be those in large cars who are the worst offendors.

AP - at ds's school, the worst parkers are parents in people carriers or 4x4s. Having a big car obviously means you are entitled to park where the hell you like and sod all the little people...

cupsoftea · 23/09/2008 10:14

harrah!!

AngryParker · 23/09/2008 10:26

harrah? cupsoftea? why harrah?

RubySlippers · 23/09/2008 10:27

what ON earth are you talking about AngryParker?

cupsoftea · 23/09/2008 10:31

three cheers that the idiots that make it hard for kids to get to school safely got tickets - wish the same would happen here.

AngryParker · 23/09/2008 10:31

Bad parking at schools RubySlippers, same as OP. Just expressing what I've noticed to be a common theme at my Dc's school. Everyone tuts and mutters about it.

AngryParker · 23/09/2008 10:32

I agree Cupsoftea, but they don't get caught enough IMO.

TheCrackFox · 23/09/2008 10:36

YANBU, just a shame that the traffic wardens do not carry taser guns aswell. I would like all the arseholes at DS1 school who do this to be zapped.

Angryparker - you are a nutter.

cupsoftea · 23/09/2008 10:45

...or just take away their driving licence...

Blu · 23/09/2008 10:51

AngryParker - I sympathise. The endless cctv parking cameras are exactly the same in our area. They have this system that discernes the racial background of the driver. If I (white) stop in a red route box for 21 mins instead of the allotted 20 - bingo - a fine. As you say, it naturally screens out cars parked by drivers of African descent. Even when they are not actually in the car but in the playground, shop or whatever

Amazing technology!

But a bit mad because surely the issue is the car parked there, not the race of the driver?

fortyplus · 23/09/2008 10:52

Did you see on the news last week about the poor little 15 month old boy who was crushed to death in his pushchair by a car mounting the pavement? Quick as a flash dh said 'It's bound to someone in a massive 4x4'

Judgemental, thought I... but it was!

cazboldy · 23/09/2008 10:53

I have a 7 seater 4x4 and 5 dc and I am a farmers wife.....

I would agree that it is usually the bigger cars that park so badly.

I park away from the school, and walk but there are a couple of mums and a child minder who roll up at the last minute, park where they like, often leaving smaller dc in the car and then stand there chatting after they have dropped off their dc

Once when I heard the teacher approach one of them (who has 5 dc) she said that it was because she had lots of children and she couldn't walk with all of them, and she was always running behind as she had so many to get ready!

People like that give the rest of us a bad name!

and Yay to the tickets!
