to hate the term 'the baby'

It seems bizarre to me but probably being unreasonable that people refer to their baby as 'the baby' rather than their name especially if they have only one.

Someone I know has a baby/child of nearly two and still refers to him as the baby. I feel like saying 'do you mean xxx?'

But think its just me being irritable and intolerant!

I hate it too. My MIL calls her daughter ( who is 17 )the babba, or the babe. It actually makes me feel sick. Mind you they treat her like a baby too. They started calling my dd ' The babe' until i got dh to tell them to stop it.

Better than 'it'.

If it is a baby of an acquaintance eg dd's classmate's baby sister, I might even remember the name, or even whether I heard it before. So it is 'baby'. Too many babies around.

I'm enjoying the minor hijack TW. Glad you're enjoying being a mother! There must be another thread for this (I'd say much more but am beginning to get about change of subject).
