To want to skip a anniversary city-break so I can afford a new coat?

Partner and I are coming up to 5 years together. He will be in Rome just before our anniversary on business and has suggested I fly out so we can celebrate it out there as part of a long weekend. We've both been to Rome twice before and seen all the sites, but never together.

There is a new Vivienne Westwood coat out that I am IN LOVE with - a real investment piece! It's so pricey though that I definitely cannot afford both the weekend AND the coat. I missed out on a jacket of hers last winter so really don't want the same to happen again, but AIBU to put the citybreak budget towards the coat?

try again

I saw an OK ish berry coat, nothing special. Certainly not worth missing out on a romantic trip.

PuppyMonkey · 19/09/2008 12:35

well, I tried...

Anna8888 · 19/09/2008 12:35

Hmm... I definitely would rather have a weekend alone with my DP in Rome than a new coat (unless I had no coat at all to wear).

Bingo!

MinkyBorage · 19/09/2008 12:36

Coat! Sorry, to go against the grain, but if you're not that bothered about going to Rome, then the coat. It's lovely. I wanted to get a grey flannel Westwood one last year, but couldn't justify it.

themildmannneredjanitor · 19/09/2008 12:37

it just takes me to the home page!!!!![gets frustrated and annoyed]

Anna8888 · 19/09/2008 12:37

Definitely prefer Rome to coat. It doesn't look very warm or cosy... or even sexy...

PuppyMonkey · 19/09/2008 12:38

Sorry... it works for me... Try putting the product number in the search bit of the home page

MasterBatesLePew · 19/09/2008 12:42

Coat. I want new doors for my 40th but DH says no. But it's what I want and if he spent the money on something else then we can't afford the doors.

themildmannneredjanitor · 19/09/2008 12:42

sorry that doesn't work either.
i'm sorry i am casting judgement wothout seeing the coat.
yabu.

But Cod - do you prefer the coat to a weekend of romance and passion in Rome with your DH?

themildmannneredjanitor · 19/09/2008 12:57

ok found it.
definitely the weekend in rome.

it looks like it comes from principles.

themildmannneredjanitor · 19/09/2008 12:58

and i don't like the weid bunching up thing at the friont.

FairLadyRantALot · 19/09/2008 13:07

they want over £400 for ^that coat? Tis not really naything special...must be just because its from that paricula designer that they feel it's a justified price ....

I would go for the weekend in rome...and I think YABU

Comeoveener....your dilemma is, imo, completely different and in your case I would get what you need...yes, a safari is a great adventure, I am sure...but....maybe you could do that when you are not needing somehting that is important...

AbbaFan · 19/09/2008 13:07

I would go to Rome - no contest.

expatinscotland · 19/09/2008 13:09

meh.

i'd pick Rome.

but try this one for size: what if he said he'd rather buy a games console and games than go on a weekend break with you for your anniversary.

would you be cool with that?

discantus · 19/09/2008 13:31

Hi Expat - This isn't an anniversary trip it's a business trip, and he'll be on the phone half the weekend talking about the meetings with his boss(not his fault, but that's what happend last time). If we're paying to go away i'd rather go to somewhere we both have chosen and not have meetings or business involved. The coat just happened to be tied up in the affordability of it all.
