to think that DH should look in the 'special baby ' rear view mirror at DS to check that he's ok?!

Today, on the way home in the car, I turned around to look at DS and he was shaking his cup of water everywhere and was drenched!

Now rather than having to turn right around (as DS sits behind the passenger seat) and strain my neck/back - AIBU to expect DH to look in the mirror occasionally to check on DS?!?! This also happened when DS was sick in the car, a while ago we'd prob never had known until either I turned around or we'd reached our point b

Seeing as the driver would be checking the rear view mirror anyway, it wouldn't take a few more seconds to look in the other mirror which is located on the windscreen right next to the rear view....would it?

PSML at the massive response to this thread!!

I started this quite innocently and certainly have not implied that DH does not care about DS's safety. I merely thought that it was not unreasonable to think that he should look occasionally. Anyway, I think that there has been a total over reaction to this thread - please direct your energies onto something more worthwhile....and what I can't be arsed doing, is to carry on reading the responses.

Thanks for the huge response tho...nice to know you care

ROFL at the 'troll' comment...I've often wondered why I get so hacked off when goats try and cross bridges...

I thought the mirror was so the passenger could watch PFB? If not, sit in the blardy back lady!

pardon · 13/09/2008 20:11

Surburban - my ds is OBSESSED with Scouting for Girls and always asks for Get yourself on an airyplane. Slightly annoying but much better than The Wheels on the Bus

Janni · 13/09/2008 20:15

If you would like us to direct our energies onto something more worthwhile, kindly refrain from inviting us to comment on your AIBU. I presume you can't be arsed with the responses because they are not what you were anticipating.

mumeeee · 13/09/2008 20:27

It is safer for you to be checking on your DS. Your DH should be keeping his eyes on the road.

Twelvelegs · 13/09/2008 20:29

Better that he drove looking in front and the rear view mirror and didn't crash!!
If you're worried sit in the back.

nickytwotimes · 13/09/2008 20:30

What Janni said.
This is AIBU - you should expect people to get their knickers in a knot in this section of MN.
Imho, rear view mirrors are not really necessary. We don't have one and ds seems to have survived so far.

FairLadyRantALot · 13/09/2008 20:34

...the sicknes one....surely if it was real bad sick (rather than Baby-sicking)you would have known without looking.......

however I do tend to check on my Kids in the back, if I can see them in the mirror when driving....

pointydog · 13/09/2008 20:51

You've got to try and let your dh parent his way. It doesn't really matter if he looks in the mirror or not.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 13/09/2008 20:53

My new car (new last year) came with a drop down baby mirror. Actually I find it really useful as ds1 keeps taking his seat belt off and I can shriek "put your seat belt on" without having to take eyes off the road.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 13/09/2008 20:54

oh I mean in my car the baby mirror is built in. I didn't know it had one until the car arrived.

mshadowsisfab · 13/09/2008 21:39

I have a extra rear veiw mirror trained on dd.
she is not a pfb
just would like to know if she is having a fit.

pgwithnumber3 · 13/09/2008 21:43

PMSL at SuburbanDryad popping her boob into baby's mouth whilst her DH was driving along. I can imagine you caused many a Lorry crash when they saw that!

gagarin · 13/09/2008 21:50

just get another mirror for the passenger side?

unaccomplishedfattylegalmummy · 13/09/2008 21:52

YABU DH is the driver and the 2 dds sit in the back, me in the passenger seat. I am always looking behind me to check on them, if he is driving it's your job IMO.

Hulababy · 13/09/2008 21:58

We have Scouting for Girls on a lot here too. 6y DD loves them. Have to admit I really like the album too; think DH does as well.

lou33 · 14/09/2008 00:09

lol @ the op's last post, trying to appear unaffected yet attempting to wind up everyone

it isnt rocket science to deduce that the driver should focus on the road, if there is an adult passenger capable of turning their bloody neck to check their own child

stop acting like a helpless child ffs

in all honesty i cant quite believe this is a serious thread

mm22bys · 14/09/2008 09:49

YABU. They don't sound particularly safe, if they could distract the driver. He had you there, so why couldn't you take the onerous job on of occassionally checking on your child?

Also, parents have not had these for years and yars, why are they suddenly needed now?

My mother was killed and my sister sustained a horrific brain injury in that split second when my father looked round to check on us in the back of the car whilst he was driving - ARE YOU FOR REAL - would you not rather move the baby seat or maybe get a bit of a crick in your neck than die???????

Oh and our Golf doesn't have a lighter fitted as standard!
