I decide when dd has school lunches, right? Not her friends?

I know I am right I am just having a wobble

I want dd1's school lunches to be on the days I don't have to make sandwiches for dd2 at preschool to make it easier for ME

she wants school lunches on the day her friend has them so they can sit together

we had a big meltdown this morning

I am right aren't I? Or am I Bad Mummy who is ruining her social time? (she's 7)

But Capp, you are actively CONTROLLING her friendships in order to fit them into a pattern that you think it appropriate

What you are really saying is "I don't want DD to have lunchtimes with this girl. AIBU in making her find someone else to have lunch with?"

And I think yes YABU. Lots of friendships are more one-sided and lots of girls have passing crushes on other girls - trying to control these so that your DD avoids potential hurt that you are feeling on her behalf is veering on the helicopter side of things.

oh mp i am so proud

no-one has ever accused me of being a helicopter mum before

I am usually too idle

ok, ok, I get it everybody. I'll change my mind.

capuccino - your dd is 7 and you think you have more say than her friends?

get real

tootiredtothink · 10/09/2008 12:20

YANBU

I HATE making up sandwiches - and yes i do it the night before.

How fabulous your school is to let you swap and change .

Saying that of course, your dd will always want to do what her friends are doing and not what you want.

overthemill · 10/09/2008 12:37

our school lets them change daily. they can pay as they go or you can send in say £20 and they tell you when it has run out. i'd like her to have packed lunch when she does a club

old lower school you could change on weekly basis
seems sensible to me

YABalittleU

i remember it being difficult at 11 to have to sit on my own and eat dinners because my friends all took packed lunches

pointydog · 10/09/2008 21:45

surely it's good that she has school dinners as often as poss? So you don;t have to endure the tedium of making up packed lunches.

pointydog · 10/09/2008 21:47

ahhhhh, you mean schools lunches are a packed lunch?

Can she not have school dinners? I refuse to make packed lunches for the dds. But if a friendship was at stake I'd get dh to make them.
