Is it not bad enough to try and be a good parent / step parent without having to watch shite like that on tv, Don't both mothers and fathers who have split up get enough bad press already.....
Yes I understand not all step families mesh but ffs why do they portray parents in such a bad way....Who would speak to his teenage son like that "your mum doesnt want you neither do i" and what woman in her right mind would send an 8yr old into the bushes to have a wee without going with her never mind walking off...I know its not real but my god it has really made my blood boil...What did you think??? Am I just to naive??

Wasn't it the dads new partner - supposedly suffering from pnd or something?

Grumpalina · 15/09/2008 23:10

Possibly but I got so bored and irritated I lost all interest.

ethanchristopher · 15/09/2008 23:12

wel that was a bloody waste of time

and yeh i thort it was the new partner...

Ingle · 16/09/2008 15:45

it was the dads new girlfriend that did it, think she was still holding grudge about emily hurting her baby and also being so spoilt and manipulative. she could also have been suffering from pnd. Thought it was a v good drama but a little rushed in the end.

notwavingjustironing · 16/09/2008 15:49

Seriously. I couldn't believe I had wasted three hours of my life on this. It was like the writer had suddenly realised that the deadline was in five mins and just shoved anything in.

Are we seriously expected to believe that all five of the adults went round to the house, unexpectedly, gave Emily a slap round the head and then left her outside in the garden? Including her own mum.....?

And equally, if it was the new mum, no-one noticed her pushing the pram down the entry to the garden (which looked too small to even get a pram down), and she calmly went home and behaved normally.

Sorry I'm so ranty, but I just thought the ending was absolutely pointless.

Now breathe....

Ingle · 16/09/2008 16:03

yes there were a few flaws in it, but still thought it good and acting also. but poor old jack - always was left out in the cold and was left wondering if he'd ever recover!

flourybaps · 16/09/2008 16:04

What a terrible depiction of new motherhood, o shes got a bit of sick on her top and her roots are showing......... she got pnd........she killed a little girl.

Thought the boy and emily's characters were well played but really everyone else in it were just horrid people and as for kevin, well no-one needs to see that!

it was a good show but very rushed at the end it would of been good to have it on a bit longer see what happened to the mother etc and so on hmmm I knew it was the step mother but glad she did it that little girl was evil

Setting aside the discussion about how the programme portrays (or doesnt)depending on your viewpoint......was anyone a bit lost by the ending?

I had sky+ it and it kinda just ended without an ending? so I checked my sky+ listing for next episode to check the synopsis and found there is no 4th episode?

I know the dads new girlfriend is crying hysterically at the end saying "i am so sorry" over and over but is she crying because she did it or because she is distraught that her boyfriends daughter is dead?

If this is the end and I didnt miss a huge chunk then does anyone else think this was a shit ending? have i really endured seing that little girl's head smash through a patio window like 100 times just for that shite ending?

What do you all think?

ethanchristopher · 16/09/2008 22:38

siobhan, i think we were all a bit pissed off at seing that little girls head smash through the window 100 times for the shite ending

i think they were saying it could have been any of them cause nobody in that circle behaved like a responsible adult

but in the end it just happened to be the step mum

Gateau · 17/09/2008 08:50

What a totally weak and crap ending.

MatBackFeck · 17/09/2008 09:42

I can kind of see that trite point about it could have been any of the adults as they were all behaving craply and the kids were innocent victims of them wanting to get a shag, even though Emily was very irritating (well she would be bought up like that) - but didnt they then ruin that whole premise by showing the 2 teenagers as being one of the lot who could hgave possibly killed her. Very rushed and not well thought out I thought. I also find it hard to believe anyone would treat their children so awfully, all at the same time, for such a sustained period. Hope so anyway.

silvercrown · 17/09/2008 17:00

I thought it was quite good. It showed how complicated life can get when people split up and have new partners, new kids and step kids and how everyone has different problems in life. Emily just wants her mum and dad back together and is jealous of the son coming to live with them. The boy's mum is sick of being the only one responsible for him when the dad has walked out and the boy is at that difficult age where he's experimenting with drinking/sex and bunking off school so he is a difficult child for the mother but her new found freedom from her marriage makes her abit of a bitch and selfish because she just wants to wash her hands of him. Emily's mum is trying to be a caring stepmum inviting him into her home but cannot see how this affects her daughter, her dad is wrapped up in his job but can't seem to handle either his new family or take care of Emily. I didn't like Emily much either because she was so manipulative but at least they showed that 8 year old girls can be manipulative. The programme showed that all the parents had a reason for feeling that Emily was a burden in their lives but that they didn't kill her. In the end it was the least likely person. Agree that I didn't enjoy seeing Emily fall all those times. It does also show how people immediately believe a child without getting all the information first. They didn't even question her properly.

Alexandarite · 18/09/2008 00:57

What was to dislike about the little girl ? she seemed to be a normal moody 8 year old who had gone through a number of serious changes to her young life.

I cant believe how many comments are being made with regard to her being manipulative or even evil. She told one lie, albeit a whopper and something that would have massive consequences, I dont think that the average 8 year old would know what could really happen (I hope not at any rate) It appeared to me that she thought that it would get her mum and dad back together or at put herself back in focus, but instead it made them argue more and once said, its very hard to take back for fear of being in trouble.

For goodness sake, as adults we dont handle every situation in our lives well, how on earth do we expect an 8 year old to ? First and foremost she was a innocent child.

I think the point of the series was to show how selfish we as adults get when we want our own way.

For the mother to be screaming at her - my life is all about you is it, my life is all about you....... well hell yeah it is! When you make the decision to have a child in your life, they become number one and if you are lucky, you get enough support to have a bit of a life yourself.

I had to close my eyes when I saw her sat on the swing after the second time it appeared in front of me (when I realised that they were going to show that bit over and over)

and what a shite ending.

coco44 · 27/02/2014 10:21

But she wasn't innocent was she? '

I cant believe how many comments are being made with regard to her being manipulative or even evil. She told one lie, albeit a whopper and something that would have massive consequences

That's like saying Hiltler was an ok kind of a guy apart from that one holocaust thing
