thats dd's teacher has DREW dd's name in her coat? its a lilac coat but has a white lining, and there just underneath the hood is her name in large letters i mean whats wrong with writing in the tag if she really feels she has to

Overmydeadbody · 05/09/2008 16:32

does it really matter though?

belgo · 05/09/2008 16:33

yes that's annoying. Is there a school policy of labelling coats?

belgo · 05/09/2008 16:33

it matters if it's a good coat that you want to sell on later.

SparklyDiscoGirl · 05/09/2008 16:33

Hmm
Strange one.
I too would be narked I think

Although probably would let it go without saying anything in the interests of desired harmonious relationship with teacher of dd.

Overmydeadbody · 05/09/2008 16:33

why didn't you already label it? Could have prevented this situation from ever arising.

giraffeskeel · 05/09/2008 16:33

Well, if you had put a name tag in there then she wouldn't have needed to.

expatinscotland · 05/09/2008 16:33

you didn't label it yourself before she started school?

Overmydeadbody · 05/09/2008 16:34

I've bought DS second hand coats with other kid's names in them. It never deterred me.

belgo · 05/09/2008 16:34

yes you should have labelled it yourself, but I know that's very easy to forget to do.

JuneBugJen · 05/09/2008 16:34

You are told at our school to label everything. Perhaps though she should have asked first, but maybe its a policy.

Not worth fussing about now though

PeaMcLean · 05/09/2008 16:35

How old is she?

southernbelle77 · 05/09/2008 16:35

I imagine it's pretty annoying for the teacher to not have ask all the time because pupils do not come with coats etc labelled.

However, mentioning it to you would have been better than writing it in which I think is wrong.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 05/09/2008 16:35

YANBU.

She should have just reminded you to do it if it needed labeling.

I would have been quite .

expatinscotland · 05/09/2008 16:35

oh, well, all the girls' kit comes out of Primark or given to us or is handed down.

i just use our surname labels. or a Sharpie pen.

loopylou6 · 05/09/2008 16:36

no i didnt label it, very stupid i know, but i still dont think there was a need for big bold letters in her coat. P she is 4, only started on wednesday and is LOVING it

belgo · 05/09/2008 16:37

my dd1's nursery school teacher actually thanked me for sending dd1 in a labelled coat, as another child has exactly the same coat.

Perhaps it is unusual to label coats and cardigans. My mother sewed on all the labels when I was at school. I iron them on.

PeaMcLean · 05/09/2008 16:37

She should have told your DD to make sure it had a label put in it. i bet there were others in the class. Did she do the same to them?

loopylou6 · 05/09/2008 16:38

i admit that i should of labelled it, i labelled everything else... but still

JuneBugJen · 05/09/2008 16:38

There you are. She is loving school even with a teacher who is a glad hand with a marker pen. Let it go!!!

loopylou6 · 05/09/2008 16:40

i have no idea if she destroyed wrote in anyones elses coat, but its particulary annoyed me becasue its so visable when she wears it, you know the low hung hood type of thing?

OP posts:
loopylou6 · 05/09/2008 16:41

lol june, i will let it go (unless she comes home with her full name and address in block letters on the front of her pinny ) i just wanted to foind out if drawing in childrens coats was the norm lol

OP posts:
JuneBugJen · 05/09/2008 16:42

LOL!!

belgo · 05/09/2008 16:42

no it's not the norm, I would have thought reception teachers were far too busy dealing with all the children to write in coats.

Overmydeadbody · 05/09/2008 16:43

It's not the norm no

PeaMcLean · 05/09/2008 16:47

You know, part of me is with you on this.

There's often a huge assumption that as parents, we should just know things. Our school is putting notices for parents on teh classroom window - if you don't collect from the school how are you supposed to know Like, this week, I should have just known that DS had PE on Thursday. i cannot reasonably ask my CM to check the notices on all the class windows she collects from. There's been a few other small things this week which have bugged me.

If it's your first child at school, it's reasonable that you might make a mistake and big letters on a coat which are visible whilst being worn, is a bit like being told off straight away.
