thats dd's teacher has DREW dd's name in her coat? its a lilac coat but has a white lining, and there just underneath the hood is her name in large letters i mean whats wrong with writing in the tag if she really feels she has to

Yeah that is a bit annoying - can see your point - not end of world though either

labeling it would have been one thing but big letters that can be seen when it's worn is a bit out of order really.

do they not have individual coathooks? surely she could have just mentioned it on the first day and you would have done it yourself.

bloomingfedup · 05/09/2008 17:10

The teacher should have asked you to do it or you're permission. NBU.

idontbelieveit · 05/09/2008 17:18

At first i thought YAB a bit U and should have done it yourself but letters that can be seen when she's wearing it are a step too far. I would be worried about someone pretending to know her after reading the label on her coat. maybe that's a bit paranoid though!

Sidge · 05/09/2008 17:24

Hmm I'm in 2 minds here.

One part of me thinks better an obviously marked coat than a missing one that another child has taken home.

Another part of me thinks that a polite request to label the coat ASAP would have done the trick.

loopylou6 · 05/09/2008 17:32

omg IDBI, i nevee thought of that sidge exactly, i would of been more than happy to write her name on the tag right inside the coat, am gonna just get her another coat next week i think

Agree with Sidge though. Would certainly have been but would have tried not to be !

MrsWeasley · 05/09/2008 17:43

Do several of the girls have the same coats? If so then I can understand the teacher having to tell hem apart but if not a simple "mum can you make sure its got a name in for next time please" would have been acceptable.

I wouldnt be too pleased and would ask them not to ruin anything else. (but before I did this I would check who actually wrote it, just in case it wasnt the teacher.)

loopylou6 · 05/09/2008 17:46

MW, apart from dd, there is only another 2 girls in the class

I'v done this in work, we send letters out when people enroll,
we remind parents at meetings,
we have a sign at the door with a pen for the first few weeks of term and still parents don't put names in things.
When you have 3 or 4 coats the same it's a nightmare especialy if one usually wears it but hasn't that day but thinks they have.
Parents should put the name in clearly so the child can see it not mini initials on the label, even though we have named pegs some coats fall off or get put on the wrong peg. We get the blame if the coats go missing.

loopylou6 · 05/09/2008 17:55

so do you actually draw in large, noticable whilst wearing letters on the childrens coat?

OP posts:
notsoteenagemum · 05/09/2008 18:01

I draw big letters around where you'd hang it up at the back, under where the label usually is. If coat is thin we use biro ir thick marker only one complaint when we didn't know it was a reversible coat.

loopylou6 · 05/09/2008 18:06

i think that is terrible IMHO

OP posts:
MrsWeasley · 05/09/2008 18:08

I would never do that. If needed (and I mean really needed too) I would write the initials on the tag.

Apart from anything else the teachers doesn't know for sure that your DD owns that coat, it could be a siblings, cousins, spare one from a childminder etc.

The more I think about it the more I think it out of order.

I have worked in pre-schools and schools and never needed to write a name in a garment like that.

notsoteenagemum · 05/09/2008 18:12

That was supposed to read if the coat is thin- biro if the coat is thick- marker. Wouldn't use marker on thin coat.
TBH we've been driven to it after many nasty incidents between parents. As I say no-one complain and most label their own stuff anyway.
