to be fuming that dd was not allowed a lollipop at nursey?

My dd goes to a private nursery 2 days per week and has for almost 3 yrs. Recently she has taken a few sweets in her snack box to share with her friend. they have came home with her and she told me she wasn't allowed them at nursery. I was never given an adequate explanation for this. today she took in a lollipop for herself and my friends dd. I made clear to the manager/owner and keyworker that they were for after lunch and teeth had to be brushed afterwards. No problems I was told. Then when I collected dd she told me she still had her lolly and was told to have it in the car on the way home I'm really cross about this.

I've discussed with the nursery healthy eating before. My dd has a very healthy diet with the occasional lollipop. I think it is my business what she has unless they are concerned she has an inadequate diet and they should speak to me about it if they do. I pay them a lot of money to look after my daughter and I expect them to discuss issues with me not rely on a preschooler to give me information.

I've written a letter of complaint but not sure whether to send it as it may be too strong but I'm just fed up by the fact they made out it was ok to me then refused to let dd have her lolly.

They have a special debate board where all the mummies can get a bit cwoss and call each other poo-poo head and wee-wee face.

I love a good old ding ding on here

Are you allowed to swear on NM?

I think I trolled on there once as a dare

savoycabbage · 03/09/2008 19:39

I wouldn't be pleased at all in another child gave my dd sweets when she is at a nursery.

SheikYerbouti · 03/09/2008 19:42

OMG, the have a section called "The wine bar"

Which has the following rule .

"Topics which are of an adult nature are NOT ALLOWED on this board."

woss the point in that then?

abitdoubtful · 03/09/2008 19:48

The falling over with it in her mouth is a good reason (though they could have said so at the time).

Not having time to see that she brushed her teeth after is a good reason too.

The 'but the others will want one' is not a good reason. The idea that you mustn't let kids see something they can't have is a new idea and is daft. Their egos will not be permanantly damaged by a refusal and saying no to kids is what parents/carers are for.

abitdoubtful .. I believe you are wrong .. in a nursery and pre-school situation where there is shared care of very young children it is totally unfair for a child to have sweets and others not to

thefortbuilder · 03/09/2008 19:56

i think the bigger question is can we have moving emoticons like theirs pleeeeeeease?

cheesesarnie · 03/09/2008 19:59

What bthe fuck is that on my post? v odd

tori32 · 03/09/2008 20:01

YABVU unless you intend to supply the whole class every time your dd takes a lolly! It is totally unfair to have one child who does have good eating habits getting a lolly and potentially causing a riot, by the child who doesn't eat fruit well wanting the lolly.
Try this scenario- a parent says to nursery staff 'don't give x any snack/sweets because he/she refused breakfast'. Where do staff stand when your dd gives said child sweets and how do you think those parents would feel about their child having sweets? Undermined. Nursery is not all about your dd. Not only that but lots of child react badly to the flavourings in certain sweets, making them hyper and thus disruptive to other children- again completely not on.

Oh heck not Netmums again.

I defected last year after getting into a v v heated argument with some twats posters on there who insisted that Jean Charles De Menezes brought his demise on himself by overstaying his visa.

Nuff said.

Twelvelegs · 03/09/2008 20:24

Stripeymama, is NetMums really a Daily Mail site? I feel like joining as I am a nasty seven months pregnant and have terrible mood swings. It would be so nice to have some venting aside from at my poor poor children, in fact I may ask my midwife if it's recommended!!
