to want to let myself go?

I'm bloody sick of makeover shows. It all looks far too much like hard work to me. I find myself looking at the before ladies, thinking "Mmm, thats a nice comfy looking jumper/warm fleece" and then they get all gussied up and it just looks hard.

Wouldn't it be a step forward to

-not wax/or shave anything
-except have all my hair shaved and buy a wig instead
-have wash and wear work clothes that I will wear till they fall to bits, when I will replace them with same.
-never wear make up
-never wear contacts
-have all my teeth pulled and replace them with falsers

I put this to my DH from time to time and he just says"I have no opinion, because I know it will be wrong". You have an opinion don't you? Tell me!

I have absolutely no desire to let myself go whatsover and in fact am rather looking forward to when the children go back to school so that I can get down to some serious grooming

solidgoldbrass · 30/08/2008 08:43

Mhamai: fire away

Cicatrice · 30/08/2008 09:32

But Anna do you feel better for the grooming? Do you enjoy having your hair done for example? I know people who do, but I find it genuinely irritating and I NEVER get what I ask for.

I always come out in a bad mood and start claiming that DH should be able to trim my hair and the back and I could do the front ,and then he runs away.

Sorry for the hijack but suedonim you are one good looking family! I'm so used to everyone on here having littlies it's a surprise to see older ones. Mind you it took a moment for me to recover as you're a dead ringer for my doctor!

Anna8888 · 30/08/2008 10:12

Cicatrice - oh yes, I always feel much better for the grooming

I don't spend much on treatments btw - it's nearly all DIY. But I spend a fortune on going to the right hairdresser.

Libra1975 · 30/08/2008 10:13

Anna I'm with you on this, I can't wait until A reaches 8 weeks and the creche can take him so I can get back in the gym and drop the 2 stone extra pregnancy weight I am carrying.
Plus I think it should be made illegal for women to have unpainted toe-nails.

Saying that even when I am on top of my grooming game so to speak I still do groomed casual rather than glamourous, life is too short for skirts and high heels with full slap.

Anna8888 · 30/08/2008 10:17

Oh me too I'm much more into grooming than make-up and complicated clothes

BouncingTurtle · 30/08/2008 10:27

'Plus I think it should be made illegal for women to have unpainted toe-nails.'

I bet cart myself off to jail then

Seriously I've got better things to do than paint my toenails, pluck my eyebrows and put make up on every morning.

After all we all going to end up old, wrinkly and grey one day. I'd like to be able to look back when I'm old that I didn't waste so much time on my appearance that I missed doing the things that really matter.

But if it makes you happy then good for you.

onebatmother · 30/08/2008 10:42

I do find it a bit odd when women are desperate to get back to their pre-baby appearance. I rather revelled in my sags and bags - I was very proud of what my body had done and completely, completely wrapped up in my babies. the thought of leaving a baby who'd been out of my tummy for just 8 weeks would have seriously distressed me. Wouldn't have recognized a pair of tweezers if you'd shoved them up my nose.

Now, however, I could definitely use a groom.

Ba-boom tsh!

onebatmother · 30/08/2008 10:43

sorry - the thought of leaving a baby who'd been out of my tummy for just 8 weeks in a creche would have seriously distressed me.

Libra1975 · 30/08/2008 11:14

I am very proud of what my body did but it's done it's baby job and now it's job is to be in good healthy condition. I am not going to use the fact I've had a baby to excuse the fact I can't get into my jeans anymore, that's my personal view. I think my little one will survive going into the creche for 45 minutes 3 times a week (I will be 20 metres down the hall) and as far as being seriously distressed I am actually looking forward to it as I love going to the gym and the buzz I get out of it.

Anna8888 · 30/08/2008 11:18

Go for it Libra

Kewcumber · 30/08/2008 11:34

but not getting into your jeans doesn't make you unhealthy. And if you want to get some exercise, you don;t need to put your C in a creche - long walk with Dc in buggy is as healthy and cheaper than a gym and DC get to come with you.

Trust me I know, because I am unhealthy.

Kewcumber · 30/08/2008 11:36

and I didn't let myself go. That would imply I was somewhere to start with.

suedonim · 30/08/2008 13:19

Thank you, Eyeballs. I have to say, the camera did happen to catch me on a reasonably good day, I'm sure I don't normally resemble your doctor. In fact, I am Haggis McBaggis today, and so happy that Mumsnet doesn't have webcam.

I looked at your pics - I love that wide-eyed innocence of babies, it's so sweet and adorable.

There's no hope for me. The older I get the vainer I become and the more beauty products I buy.

pushchair · 30/08/2008 15:03

When I watch Gok getting those women into all-over control garment I think WHY? they must be so uncomfortable and bad for the digestion and they certainly arent attractive. I like comfortable clothing- no thongs, high heels. Have friends who say you have to suffer to look good and I say bo....ks.
Must say teeth are crap arent they. Who the heck designed a bit that rots and falls out when you eat food.

MABS · 30/08/2008 15:17

Noddy looks ectremely good btw.

I thoroughly enjoy being very high maintenance, mani, padi, waxin, hair, tan - you name it, i do it. I feel better about myself for it.

But i am very aware you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear sadly

suedonim · 30/08/2008 15:18

Oh no, I don't do discomfort, Pushchair. I couldn't possibly wear this for instance.

MABS · 30/08/2008 15:24

noddyholder · 30/08/2008 16:34
