for me to spend a small fortune on book??!! need to feel less guilty

i know i should have gone to the library but my kids have damaged the last few books we borrowed from the library and we're lost a couple so i've had to play for them anyway.

a couple of books are presents for DH...

should i send them back when they arrive???

i'm the wrong person to answer, I love books!

Which books did you buy and how much did you spend? Can you afford them? If so, don't worry about it. If you can't then you need to think twice.

Books are always an investment IMO! Were they classics that will last forever?

well...I couldn't really say...as I just spend £140 today on 18 Books....3 were Textbooks for the Course I am starting in September and the rest were biography kind of books on the adviced reading list...so, I have an excuse...
fwiw...I don't think one can ever have to many books, and as for pending to much....only if you didn't get the best dea, imo

there are a few books to keep the kids amused on a 4 hour flight (rather than buy them at the airport), a couple for DH, then each dc has a couple of books each.

we can afford it but we could also spend the money on something else.

i just love books and we do spend lots of time reading/sticker books ... although dd1 is reluctant to read to me!!

check out the bookpeople if that isn't where you ordered your books from - they are so reasonable.

am desparate to read 'a charming man' though but trying to hold out until we go on holiday in october !

you are right, there is nothing to feel guilty about with books. the kids will love them and i will love reading them to them !!!

You are guilty for buying your children books - these magical things that will teach them about life, humanity, help them to develop their literacy skills which in the long term will enable them to get good jobs, make their own decisions in life be liberated and learned???

What you should be guilty about is NOT buying yourself a few books too - because how are you going to model good literacy to your children without a few great reads by your bedside table or in your handbag????!!!!????

Hedgewitch - my dad will vouch that there is such a thing as spending too much money on books - because my mum collects Victorian bookbindings, with gold tooling, vellum pages, beautiful Morocco calfskin leather, etc, etc.

But if it's books for actual reading, definitely a good role model for your kids!
Admittedly I need to learn to exit an Oxfam Bookshop with fewer books than I go in with...

buying books is my one vice.

This is really a lovely novel it sort of stays with you for ages afterwards. A few weeks ago I bought crossing to safety because I was missing Stegner's style so much!
