Saw it for the first time on Monday and again on Wedneday this week.

Both times to packed audiences.

I have looked at the cinema schedule and it has been out about 7 weeks now and they are begining to reduce the amount of showings.

I need to see it again before waiting a few months for the DVD release!

Am desperate!

I cried too! Slipping through my fingers was just lovely!

Remotew · 24/08/2008 01:12

Thanks mummyfastatico, It has really affected me. Went for a drink afterwards with a friend who is/was a massive abba fan and I cannot wait to download this track.

You can imagine how I felt. Single mum of a lovely DD. I was in bits.

chipmonkey · 24/08/2008 01:28

I always cry at "slipping through my fingers" especially as ds1 gets older.

Remotew · 24/08/2008 01:34

Thanks Chipmonkey, I'm listening to this tomorrow. It's not that I like it. It has really affected me. God I sobbed!

Lowfat · 24/08/2008 12:59

Just wanted to say that I am in fact going to se this again today!!!

Hurrah

Am taking DD (nearly 5) - who has been playing Dancing Queen repeatedly with me teaching her how to dance like they do in the film

Also going with DH's Aunt and DD's friend and his mum.

Woooo Hoooooo

Will probably sob through Slipping through my fingers again to which DD will ask 'why are you crying mummy?' but it will be wirth it - she will know one day and I can hold her tight while it's on. :O

Glad it isn't just me. Just listened to it on YouTube and cried again!!! Enjoy it again

mummyfantastico · 24/08/2008 21:43

I saw it with my dds aged 5 and 11, youngest totally oblivious to my sobs but my big girl reached for my hand and told me she loves me!
I'm a single mum too, and we have a big girl power thing going on in my house which includes being able to cry at films like Mamma Mia!
We've now bought the soundtrack and dance around the house singing loudly every day!

mdrooney · 24/08/2008 22:16

I Loved it too so did dds it was such a feel good movie that we all enjoyed, and made us all happy we didnt have one row that night lol I also sobbed through slipping through my fingers dds are 12 and 13 and it was so i revelent, they are away at camp this week, and I might have to go again.

growingdd · 25/08/2008 10:48

Oh yes, "slipping through my fingers" v relevant to me, made me cry too (see my thread about 11 yr old dd to understand why)

shhhh · 25/08/2008 14:09

Tbh, I think "slipping through my fingers" makes most if not all of us cry, guess its the fact that oneday our lo's won't be our lo's and will be our bo's lol..! And it will be our turn to play the happy parent as we watch him or her get married or to move into their 1st home or to have their 1st child or generally to become an adult. Suppose that will be the time when we can all sit back and smile and be confident that we did our best.

reminds me about a line from affirmation a savage garden song that I love and reminds me of the above:
"I believe your parents did the best job they know how to do"

I also cried at the Abba song...as did my mum when I went along with her the 2nd time. and Maybe if I had seen this film 5 years ago before the lo's I wouldn't have cried and would have thought "mum stop embarassing me" but............I now understand it totally . .

nappyaddict · 06/09/2008 18:20

so all these people that cannot stand things like mamma mia - do you also hate classic films like dirty dancing, mary poppins, sound of music, annie, fiddler on the roof?

nappyaddict · 06/09/2008 18:22

oooh not forgetting flashdance and west side story!!

nappyaddict · 06/09/2008 18:23

I've been to two sing-a-longs, they were brilliant - wanna go again!

Hassled · 06/09/2008 19:35

shhh - I saw Mamma Mia with my DD who is 19 and off to University at the end of the month - that Slipping Through My Fingers song had me absolutey sobbing in a hideously embarrassing way. Then DD and I went and drank cocktails, and I felt a bit better .

"surely it must be THE most popular film ever in i=uk???"

Not sure about that. Does anyone else remember when the original Grease came out in the 70s? The cinemas then had unbelievably long queues outside. We went to see it twice. My Mum went with us once, my Dad the next time. I LOVED IT!

mamadiva · 08/09/2008 15:01

I've been to see it 3 times now LOL is fab!!!

mamadiva · 08/09/2008 15:04

Nappy addict I love Mamma Mia but hate hate hate mary poppins and annie! Never want to see Flashdance, Fame, Dirty Dancing, West side story or fiddler on the roof!!!

They are not the same though. They don't ahve Dominic Cooper in them......

2beornot2be · 08/09/2008 15:09

It is a good film

Why don't you go to www.graboid.com and download it its free and you can watch it when you want that way :-)

Anna8888 · 10/09/2008 17:12

It came out in Paris today and DD (3.10) and I went to the first showing of the afternoon. Brilliant - lots of fun.

The woman sitting next to us was already on her second showing of the day

cariboo · 10/09/2008 17:13

Dh & I are going on sat. Can't wait.

AbbeyA · 11/10/2008 22:42

I just wanted to say that I finally got around to seeing this tonight, I was surprised it was still showing-I really enjoyed it.
