YABU ! I'm turning 50 next month and am mildly alarmed but 30 ! you're still a child

Smithagain · 19/08/2008 18:19

30-something is COOL. Old enough to feel that you don't have to prove anything anymore, but young enough to achieve all sorts of stuff if you want to. But then I'm scooting rapidly towards 40 so have had a while to get used to it!

jellybeans · 19/08/2008 18:21

I quite enjoyed it. I feel like it's not that old. Some of my friends were devastated though. I think alot of it has to do with the fact that women are still often judged by their looks and youth and it is scary to think you are 'loosing' it BUT women in their 30s are still young and my mum is early 50s and looks great and is healthy so there is nothing to be scared of.

the other things is - would you prefer not to reach 30?

ForeverOptimistic · 19/08/2008 18:29

I loved turning 30, I felt grown up and sophisticated.

AuntieMaggie · 19/08/2008 18:32

Don't be silly - I turned 30 last year and thought I'd be all het up about it until my sister told me I would be upset by it and I thought "who are you to tell me I need to be upset at turning 30?"

It's just another birthday, but also an excuse for a damn good party and pampering yourself - so make the most of it cos the next excuse is 10 years away!

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/08/2008 18:35

yes,I had a really good party at 30 and must say that my thirties were pretty good all in all - I missed out on a chunk in my twenties when I was ill which was a shame,so I guess I made up for it later..40s have been fine too

Buckets · 19/08/2008 18:43

YABU, your body started going downhill at 26 so why start worrying now? You do have to start wearing mascara when you turn 30 though I think.

Personally I can't wait for my 50s, my mum had a whole new lease of life after the menopause. And my youngest will be 18 just after my 50th!

Mercy · 19/08/2008 18:58

zippi, you are so right.

The voice of wisdom.

And erm, buckets, not everyone's body goes downhill at a mere 26!

LongLiveCuckoo · 19/08/2008 19:06

I dont know why, but I was upset about turning 30, but that was because I didn't feel I'd achieved anything. I feel far better about the big fat forty that is only 28 months away! Bring it on. What difference does it make.

I wouldn't have believed that I would be so chilled about 40 when |I was really depressed about 30. Makes no sense!
