I am in my 40's.
30's were fab because you make far fewer idiotic decisions and worry less about everyone liking you.
40's are quite nice as that trend has continued and i tend not to give a shit what people think at all which is quite as liberating as grannies always suggest it is.

My only regret about getting older is that i didn't quite appreciate that i was very pretty in my 20's.
Always stikes me as sad that you only get confidence late in life unless you are very lucky.
Quite pleased I am an older mum to my DD though as I remember this so clearly. Although I may have over done it . DD swam up to me in the pool on hols anxious to say something. When she finally got her breath to spit it out it was " I'm really great I am "

ruty · 19/08/2008 16:35

went swiminh with 3 year old ds when pregnant [earlier this year] DS: 'mummy your boobs have gone all droopy. Like flowers.' Rather poetic insult I thought.

ruty · 19/08/2008 16:36

they are not actually droopy I'll have you know.

ruty · 19/08/2008 16:37

LOL pagwatch. Another one of ds's: 'Mummy I'm a bit crazy but I'm I'm beautiful'

Cappuccino · 19/08/2008 16:37

of course not

pagwatch · 19/08/2008 16:39

I am in my forties. When I turned 30 I cried. Turning 40 was much easier, but I still feel in my twenties. It is hard when you look at people in their twenties knowing that you are old enough to be their mothers. I hate getting older, I really hate it.

Nemoandthefishes · 19/08/2008 16:46

I felt like that last year[was 30 in nov] and was thinking I hadnt achieved anything with my life etc..but do you know its fine.I actually had a really nice night out with the girls and was lovely

CatIsSleepy · 19/08/2008 16:49

i like being in my 30s
i don't have to worry that i should be out clubbing or something

2shoes · 19/08/2008 16:53

Mercy · 19/08/2008 16:55

Daphne

ruty · 19/08/2008 16:56

can you imagine pagwatch?
-'You're great.'
-'Yes I am actually. So are you though.'
-'Come to think of it, I am, yes.'

Cammelia · 19/08/2008 16:59

You are not u to feel that 30 is old. It does feel like the end of an era.

The good news is that you start to feel younger again later, probably late 30's.

When you get to 50, you just don't care

SNoraWotzThat · 19/08/2008 17:00

30 is nothing, wait till you are 40 then come back and ask for pity

Enjoyed turning 30 but was very depressed on my 31st birthday

happyhoney · 19/08/2008 17:03

YABU, I felt more grown up for some reason when I hit 30. Although must say my face did start to age around that time.

ninedragons · 19/08/2008 17:06

The thirties are great. More money and more sense than your twenties.

Do something fabbo to mark it.

wotulookinat · 19/08/2008 17:06

I turned 30 in July. In my mind I am still 18 and sometimes I surprise myself (not in a good way!) when I look in the mirror. I was asked yesterday how old I was and I say 'twentyn...n...thirty' and then felt like crying!!!!!
It's only a number, I guess. Sob sob.

sfxmum · 19/08/2008 17:10

around the same time I will be 40
not sure what a grown up is supposed to be actually but am ok being me

what do you want to achieve?

suedonim · 19/08/2008 18:01

Yup, YABU. Turning 30 is much better than the alternative.

Mummyfor3 · 19/08/2008 18:08

YABU as the only alternative to getting older is dying yound !!

I loved my thirties, much happier than twenties, and still happy in my forties!!

My 95 year old gran ( 2nd time I am mentioning her on MN tonight) still says she feels the same as when she was a girl and "does not recognize the old hag staring back at me in the mirror" - her words, not mine!!

So, it IS only a number, do not let in intimidate you.

Eddas · 19/08/2008 18:08

YABU, i'm 30 in November.

Not much you can do anyway!

thumbwitch · 19/08/2008 18:13

oh FGS - wait until you turn 40 before you start whinging about it. (And there's nowt wrong with turning 40 either!)
I had a great time in my 30s and nothing started to sag or wrinkle until I was 35 when I suddenly found a difference in various things. But for some it happens earlier, some it happens later - it's all about how you feel inside and nothing to do with the actual number.

Get a grip, woman!!
