I promised myself that if managed to lose 3 and a half stone before i got to 40, i would finally get a tattoo. Nothing huge, but maybe a tiger or scorpion on my lower back.

Well i finally did it ! Yay!! Down to 8st 10 and gonna hit the big 40 in November (its the 14th if you all wanna get me pressies.

Anyhoo half of the people i have told have said yea go for it, whilst the other half are a bit "hmm dont you think you're a bit old for that?"

Not sure if i have the pain threshold for it tho, i havent even got my ears pierced, but its just something i have always wanted to do. To all you tattood peeps out there, does it really hurt as much as i am hearing? shudders

I have one and I regret it.
I was 18 though and I think by 40 you know your mind!
Do it!
I read an article by India Knight (who I love) in the Sunday Times and she was all for it. She was saying that people harp on about how you regret it and its "forever" but really its only for as long as your life and so what if you do regret it.
Word of warning, have it where it can be hidden. Whilst I regret mine (only mildly as its not very original, its a dolphin!) its on my hip and can even be hidden by bikini bottoms.

Also, yes tattoos might be associated with chavvy (but who on earth defines what is and is not?!) but we all need our vices. I don't have too many but my tattoo (and I repeat I sort of regret is) is a nice shock value!

really hate tatts, but fairyfly's one is very pretty

IndigoMoon · 21/08/2008 20:12

i got my first tattoo nearly twelve months ago. i had lost a bit of weight and i had always wanted one. i could never decide what i wanted and then i saw the one i have and had it.

it was very painful but i love it and still do. my mom was not impressed and said the old wrinkly thing and i said that when i was wandering down the carehome corridor naked singing songs from moulin rouge then at least i would look like i had a bit of a life at some point. not to say that those who do not have a tattoo have not had a life but i like them, i like mine and i like its symbolism to me.

There is nothing about a tattoo that could possibly enhance the human body,...absolutely nothing.

Stay beautiful. Stay natural

I am planning on having one after dc2 is born in December, a small one that means something personal to me and is a little reminder of them.
For some people it means a lot to always have something like this on their person - entirely up to the individual and no-one else's business.

JayneF · 21/08/2008 23:12

I am sure you will have themin your mine every day,..with or without a tattoo! Good luck with both birht and tattoo!

at arse antlers.
And at assumption that one has only lived if tanglible reminder of it. My head holds my best memories.

Jackstini · 22/08/2008 11:19

Mine too Moondog - but they are not exclusive.
If you have to be away from family & a quick glance puts a secret smile on your face it's not necessarily a bad thing.

MrsTittleMouse · 22/08/2008 11:24

I personally don't like tattoos, but I reckon that if you're going to have one that 40 is much better than 18 - you've lived a bit and know what you like.
Congratulations on the weight loss, by the way.

I'm a bit on the fence on this one. I am still laughing at arse antlers tho!

Personally I thinka a lot depend on the tattoo and where it is. I'm not too keen at ones on the arm (bit docker-ish - I'd be scared to spill your pint) and I have really gone off the chinese-letters-on-your-builder's bum thing - looks like you're trying to hard to be 17.

Oh, and I hate the faux ankle bracelet look. Bleurghhh - why stamp yourself with argos jewellary on a permanent basis?

All that said, I've seen some fabulous ones. A lady I know (albeit a druid high priestess) has a whole ivy plant growing down her back and it is gorgeous! A real statement of who she is.

I harbour a secret fear that one day I'll get totally pissed go wild and have a dragon done. Always wanted one.

Might have it done when I'm 60. In purple.

Don't put names on yourself although - not unless you're worried about alzheimers.
