To not want DP to give the kids beef that is sitting in a puddle of blood??

I know people cook beef to be pink in the middle, but I've just gone to look at the joint after dinner and it's sitting in a puddle of blood. Surely that's not good for them is it? He says it's fine because they had bits from the outside that are more cooked.

I'm glad to be in the Western Highlands, where people actually COOK the meat they serve others to eat .

I can't be having the taste of blood in my mouth and telling myself it tastes nice.

Boak.

Steak Tartare, the Emperor's Clothing of the Food World.

Raw Minced Horse with a raw egg on top, and the french laugh at fish and chips

One of my baby books recommends rare beef as a good weaning food - baby can hold onto it and gum/suck all the juices out without getting big mouthfuls of meat they might choke on.

I love rare beef, and DS will be getting his first taste of it in the next month or so!

I hate the snobbery that's attached to eating raw meant. Anybody who can munch their way through raw meat feels as though they've passed some upper class gourmand's iniation.

Chips to go with your overdone steak ???

Have two it will balance your shoulders.

Can't stand overcooked meat. Fortunately the DCs now cant stand overcooked meat either. We're happy

You just need to get everyone doing the same thing.

Hecate · 10/08/2008 19:03

Sounds a bit too much for me. I like it a bit pink, but not so much so that a good vet could get it back on its feet!

It's a matter of taste really. The problem is that if you cook meat too much it loses it's taste, and becomes very chewy. If that is how you like it, then fair enough, but rarer meat does taste more strongly and is more tender, and if it is good quality meat it seems a pity to lose that.

Bumdiddley · 10/08/2008 19:10

Wipe it's arse and walk it through a warm kitchen.

Yummy

gastronaught · 10/08/2008 19:14

we have tried our kids with 'cooked' meat, they will only eat it rare. so rare (boak) it is.

Oh come on there is nothing posh or clever about liking our meat done a certain way. I HATE overcooked beef, it's not SUPPOSED to be brown all the way through, if you like meat like that you should not be allowed to eat beef. You have to go and eat kebab meat and chips in a bus shelter.

Its not blood - can't remember what the techincal term for it is but it is definitely not blood, the blood is drained when slaughtered.
I love meat rare and would happily give to dcs, all the bugs of beef are on the outside so no health risk just the 'yuk' factor for some.

oh come on, cooked does not mean overdone.

Don't assumed that because I want it cooked I want it overdone.

I want it in the middle. Is that too much to ask? Sadly, I think it is actually.

Brie, Miaow. At least there be no blood on my chips, cos that'd be really gorgeous obviously!

I love rare beef, but not sure that I would feed it to young children. Didn't know that it was "posh" to like rare meat....

I was also a (secret) raw sausage eater as a child, and I seem to have survived!
