To refuse to have a shower? (possibly)

I just had a shower. Used my favourite shower gel, and nice bodylotion. I come out to find dh who goes "you stink, what did you just use? Havent I told you it smells vile, I am not sleeping in the same bed as you, in fact, Im going out, I cant even be in the same room as you".

I have been using this body lotion for a year. It is my favourite. I have been using the shower gel for 5 months, I love it!
I used the same combination yesterday, and he did not say a thing.

He said he would be back when I have showered.

Should I have a shower?

Quint...you would not believe this..but...we needed to know when she was returning so we could arrange a trip to my family in Plymouth before she left. Sis was going to cook for her, take her to the sea push her off Plymouth Hoe , generally very nice day trips blah blah...I text BIL to ask when she is returning so we can sort days off etc..no reply. DH rings her in the evening two days before she is due to arrive - ok, we have your arrival date and time, when are you leaving

I don't know, your brother knows, he is here - I'll put him on

BIL comes onto the phone, starts ranting about why we want to know when she is coming back and that I've been nagging him (1 text ffs!) and do we want to get rid of her

It escalates...BIL screams I'll cancel it then, DH says fine...

Ma in law is offended by son's behaviour and refuses to come at all

Puss is tee total but tempted to drink at all of this...

As you were...

Sounds a bit like my mil. Heaps of pride.

As much as I didn't want her to come as it would have been a huge hassle, I still feel sad for her that she missed out - she's a widow and lonely and although I bitch, I do love her really and like spoiling her...she's leaving me a stunning coffee pot set when she shuffles off as well...

QuintessentialShadows · 05/08/2008 22:10

Well, so you will know for the next time to not even try to plan anything for her for her stay....

I haver to go shower. Now my skin is itching too...

No I wouldn't shower, I'd enjoy the extra space if I were you.

QuintessentialShadows · 05/08/2008 22:49

Oh, I showered. But he doesnt know. I am going to bed now. Plenty of space.

I imagine the smell was stronger as you'd just come out of the bathroom.
I believe this is the thin end of the wedge.
Next it'll be 'showering is overrated, let's neither of us bother.'

juneybean · 05/08/2008 23:11

what a nasty b....

you smelt better before!

I don't think this is unreasonable. Think about it, if a woman posted that her dh was using a pungent smelling shower gel and she'd mentioned it, but dh didn't take any notice. Everyone would be posting a whole range of ways of telling him to stop using it.

Fgs, it's a partnership, you live together and smell is important. It sounds to me that he's asked nicely and got fed up.

ZacharyQuack · 06/08/2008 00:56

Wash his pillowcase in the shower gel.

DillyTanty · 06/08/2008 01:09

deffo lotions can turn sour, qs. it's happened to me, i kinda only noticed after dh pointed it out to me. i was used to the smell so in a way smelling what i expected to.

twentypence · 06/08/2008 05:33

Ask him if he is pregnant.

QuintessentialShadows · 06/08/2008 07:19

I let him smell the pot, and it has gone bad so I have thrown it away. But I think it was made worse by the shower gel that had a very different strong smell. Body Shop.

I showered using a soap free aloe vera shower gel, and used the kids fragrance free body lotion. He smelt me, and said "Oh, that is so much better, natural and fresh and not a chemistry lab".

And so off to bed.

Quint - I have exactly the same problem with my dh. I once threw out about £250 worth of Clarins stuff because he couldn't stand the smell. He has also refused to sleep in the same bed as me (after I put some Mavala hand cream on!). I guess he's just got a sensitive nose!
