I had an altercation with a lady a couple of days ago. She was parked up on a corner on the pavement. No room for me to get through with buggy and 3 yr old, so we had to try and walk out into a busy road to get past. I shot her 'a look' when we got round to the front of the vehicle, and she shouted something out. I didn't her so went and asked her to repeat herself. 'I said its no good shooting me dirty looks, i'm waiting for someone in the job centre so I have to wait here'. I pointed out the car park across the road and told her that she shouldn't be blocking the pavement. She retorted i should have asked her to move!! Erm how? Tell my 3 yr old to wait on the pavement (I do wish he always did as he was told but by lord he doesn't!) and go round the van to ask her to move? What would be the point in that! GRrrrr!

It seems to be the way of the world nowadays. Nobody seems to think they are in the wrong. A simple sorry would do rather than a verbal attack.

I was almost knocked over the other day by another twit, I went over to her when she had to stop at the end of the road and said she nearly knocked me over, her response was "yeah but I didn't did I".

this is my biggest bugbear EVER!!! My friends laugh at how cross i get, i did ring the police a few times when DS in pushchair and they said they write to them when they are traced through reg plate.....as it is illegal

HollyandNoah · 24/07/2008 23:56

i have to admit scratching a few vans accidently ahem Maybe makes me as bad as them but helps me keep calm :|lol

They do it all the time in our village. The
pavement is narrow enough anyway. The road isn't very wide and the on-pavement parking still doesn't allow for 2 cars to pass, though parking legally does leave room for a full-sized lorry (or fire engine) going one way so its totally stupid.

Not so long ago while walking the dog I had to go around such a car ... which had someone in it... not signalling ... didn't look as he pulled out. Luckily I realised just in time and yelled. He did at least apologise.

elkiedee · 25/07/2008 00:40

Totally reasonable. And I always hope I can cause damage to the paintwork of cars blocking the pavement. There are places near me where the pavement has lines painted showing how far on to it it's ok to park, but there's always vehicles that go over that, especially 4x4s and vans.

Flossish · 25/07/2008 22:37

I develop a Laissez-faire attitude to other car's paintwork when they have parked badly next to our car which has two obvious baby seats in the back...

It's naughty. Our neighbour has a sign in her window that has eyes painted on it and it says "No turning and no parking" . Why anyone would bother about someone turning on their drive way is beyond me. They're there for like a nano second.

Anyway, this woman's friend parked at the end of my drive ffs. I was trying to leave at the time otherwise I wouldn't have minded. And then today, the same friend is parked on the pavement so that nobody can pass unless they walk on the road.

It's bang out of order and why do people think it's ok to force pedestrians onto the road? Cars have the whole road all the time. They can't have the pavement as well.

naturalblonde · 25/07/2008 22:50

I work for a bus company, and cars in bus stops drive me crazy!!! One of my drivers had to stop to pick up and had a 5 min layover in a bus stop she couldn't get into, so stopped in road, was loading passengers and the traffic warden told her if she didn't move right now she'd get a ticket for obstruction or something. No mention of the car driver!! She had toleave the stop early which we can get fined for.

Oh, and some muppet rang the other day to say my bus had hit his car while he was parked in the bus stop and what was I gonna do aboutit. I told him I'd report him to the police for parking illegally.

canofworms · 25/07/2008 22:55

Our new next door neighbours do this and I don't see why at all.

They have a drive to park on...

Double yellows the other side of the road so wouldn't block the road at all...

Thank goodness I never have to walk past their house with my pram because there wouldn't be enough room.

And they must understand as they have 2dc, one still a pre-schooler!

Desiderata · 25/07/2008 22:58

I scratch them with my keys ... it started off lightly, but now they're quite deep, and I don't give a shite. There is no fecking excuse for blocking a pavement and sending prams/infirm/blind people out into busy roads.

I'm fed up to the back teeth with 'em.

ScottishMummy · 25/07/2008 23:15

a measured reasonable response then?what a disproportionate response from you

wait til some big hairy-arsed bampot high expressed emotion driver see's you keys in hand, scratched car...........

southeastastra · 25/07/2008 23:17

i park on the pavement sometimes, shoot me

Desiderata · 25/07/2008 23:21

I don't give a shit, ladies.

They shouldn't be there.

Or is your paintwork more important than people?

southeastastra · 25/07/2008 23:22

yes

ScottishMummy · 25/07/2008 23:26

dont have a car.just wondering about your disproportionate sense of indignation.is it global anger or just cars? what else get yer goat?

does anyone ever score your buggy when you are squeezing it around shops/pavement/bus

Desiderata · 25/07/2008 23:28

Why do you park on the pavement, exactly?

Maybe I should walk on the road, by way of counterbalance.

Oh! But then again, I often do have to.

southeastastra · 25/07/2008 23:30

no one has a buggy everyone has a car

Desiderata · 25/07/2008 23:33

Well, that would explain all the fat arses around

pooka · 25/07/2008 23:33

I don't believe it is illegal or downright dangerous to walk along a pav3ement/in a shop with a buggy. Whereas unless there are signs (and reinforced extra wide pavements as a consequence) it is hazardous, illegal and incredibly selfish to park on the pavement. Not just for people with buggies, but for people in wheelchairs and the visually impaired.
